Job summary

Nanyang Technological University Singapore's School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering seeks an Assistant Manager to oversee the CAD laboratory operations, providing technical and administrative support for teaching and research activities.

The role includes ensuring safety in line with ISO 45001, maintaining hardware, configuring systems, and coordinating procurement and inventory to keep the teaching and research lab fully functional.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Manufacturing Engineering.
• 2–3 years in CAD/CAM environment.
• 1–2 years IT administration/configuration experience preferred.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAE software (SolidWorks, SolidCAM, Ansys, Fusion).
• Strong hardware/software troubleshooting skills and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

Job description

The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is seeking an Assistant Manager to manage the Computer Aided Design laboratory operations and activities. The candidate would be responsible for providing efficient technical and administrative support for all laboratory teachings and research activities and to oversee the safety standards in the lab in compliance with ISO 45001 standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical and administrative support for all undergraduate and research activities.
• Carry out all planned teaching supports of laboratory classes, experiments and projects.
• Maintain and configure computer hardware to ensure that they are in good working condition.
• Manage and troubleshoot hardware and software issues in computers and Windows servers.
• Procure laboratory software, equipment, and consumables in a timely manner and in accordance with school/university purchasing guidelines.
• Laboratory asset management and maintaining proper records for inventory auditing.
• Ensure safety practices in the laboratory.
• Carry out housekeeping of the laboratory.
• Conduct safety risk assessments for all equipment and processes.
• Ensure laboratory equipment is properly maintained, safe to operate and in good working condition.
• To ensure that lab’s resources are sufficient to function as a teaching/ research laboratory.

Requirements

• A recognized degree in Mechanical/ Mechatronics/ Manufacturing Engineering.
• Minimum 2-3 years in Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing environment.
• Preferably 1-2 years of experience in administering and configuring computer systems (IT knowledge).
• Knowledge of Computer Aided Design and Engineering software such as SolidWorks, SolidCAM, Ansys, Autodesk Fusion.
• Good computer hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of workplace safety practices.
• Able to support and assist students in teaching classes.
• Demonstrates initiative, willingness to learn, and interest in continuous improvement.
