Job summary

Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) seeks an experienced Application Developer to design, build and integrate AI-powered software solutions that support lifelong learning and inclusive education.

You will work across UI, server and data layers, implement AI services, ensure security and reliability, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable applications for the university community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Software.
• At least 5 years of software development experience and minimum 3 complete SDLC projects.
• Experience in Full-stack development and OO design for web applications.
• Proficient in Node.js, React.js, RESTful APIs, JSON, and web services.
• UI tier: HTML5/CSS3/Material UI/Angular.js/JavaScript for responsive interfaces.
• Database: MySQL or MongoDB (NoSQL).
• Server: AWS (EC2, Beanstalk, RDS) and basic Linux.
• Strong RESTful API & web tech stack knowledge; cross-browser compatibility.
• Exposure to AI/GenAI and AI APIs (OpenAI, AWS, etc.).
• Familiar with RAG, AI agents, vector databases, MCP, and semantic search.
• Experience with LangChain/LangGraph or similar orchestration frameworks is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide, recommend and evaluate various possible solutions and clearly communicate the costs and benefits of the various solutions.
• Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
• Support system deployment and perform integration with various external systems as required.
• Design, develop and continuously enhance software applications.
• Integrate and consume AI services, APIs and cloud-based AI offerings within enterprise applications.
• Monitor, evaluate and optimise the performance, accuracy and reliability of AI-enabled applications.
• Align system design and development with organisational standards and best practices for security and software development.
• Maintain, fix and perform necessary system security assessments on assigned systems to uphold the University's cybersecurity posture.
• Ensure systems are robust, available and scalable as needed
• Perform peer code reviews.
• Design and improve new and existing software systems based on evolving business processes and stakeholder requirements.
• Maintain software applications and support user inquiries and requests.
• Troubleshoot errors and issues.
• Perform bug fixes and data patching.
• Perform system upgrades and enhancements.
• Actively participate in researching and implementing emerging technologies.
• Design and propose solutions using emerging technologies for new and existing systems.
• Research, evaluate and implement AI, GenAI, LLMs, and Agentic AI technologies to enhance business processes and user experiences.
• Design, develop and integrate AI-powered capabilities such as intelligent assistants, chatbots, recommendation engines, document processing, knowledge retrieval and workflow automation into new and existing applications.
• Implement and maintain AI solutions using techniques such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, Model Context Protocol (MCP), AI agents and prompt engineering where applicable.
• Ensure AI solutions comply with organisational governance, security, privacy and responsible AI guidelines.

What You Will Be Doing

Application Development

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Software
• At least 5 years of software development experience and minimum 3 complete SDLC projects
• Experience in Full-stack development, object-oriented analysis & design, building web applications and familiar with the following technology:
• Application Tier: Node.js, React.js and Restful Web Services, JSON etc.
• User interface Tier: responsive user-facing web interfaces for Web and mobile using HTML5, CSS3, Material UI, Angular.js and JavaScript
• Database Tier: Relational database like MySQL or Object-Relational database (No SQL Db) like MongoDB is required
• Server Tier: Amazon Web Services (EC2, beanstalk and RDS) along with basic Linux administration.
• General understanding of RESTful API architecture.
• Solid understanding of the full web technology stack, including proto cols and Web server optimization techniques (e.g HTTP, cookies, headers, asset loading/caching)
• Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them
• Good interpersonal skills
• Basic understanding of AI, GenAI, and LLMs.
• Exposure to AI-assisted application development, including the integration of AI APIs and services from platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, or equivalent cloud AI services.
• Familiarity with concepts such as:
• Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
• AI Agents / Agentic Workflows
• Vector Databases
• Model Context Protocol (MCP)
• Semantic Search and Knowledge Retrieval
• Experience with AI development frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or similar orchestration frameworks is advantageous.
