Job summary

GitLab is seeking a Senior Commercial Counsel for APJ to enable growth across Asia-Pacific and Japan by bringing legal clarity to complex commercial deals.

Reporting to the Director, Legal, Commercial, you’ll work closely with regional Sales and cross-functional partners to negotiate sophisticated agreements, manage cross-border legal questions, and turn varied local requirements into practical deal strategies.

Qualifications

• Qualified to practice law with active bar membership.
• Experience in commercial/tech transactions across APJ.
• Skilled in negotiating complex agreements across APJ.
• Capable of working with outside counsel and regional teams.
• Experience creating templates, playbooks, processes.
• Strong judgment in cross-border contracting and risk.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate complex commercial and technology agreements across APJ.
• Manage strategic transactions across multiple jurisdictions.
• Partner with regional Sales and internal stakeholders.
• Navigate country-specific contracting norms in APJ.
• Advise on cross-border transaction structures with outside counsel.
• Assess contractual risk and provide practical recommendations.
• Develop APJ templates, playbooks, and policies.
• Train contract managers and regional Sales on contracting.
