Job summary

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) is seeking a seasoned risk professional to independently review operational incidents, challenge first-line reporting, and monitor APAC risk exposures. The role emphasizes governance, regulatory reporting, and stakeholder collaboration across APAC offices.

The ideal candidate will have 5–7 years in a wholesale banking environment, strong knowledge of incident management, and a proven ability to drive remediation, automation, and process improvement

Qualifications

• Degree in Finance, Accountancy, Business Admin, Law or related discipline.
• Professional certifications (CA, ACCA, CPA, FRM, PRM, ICA, ACAMS) advantageous.
• Minimum 5-7 years of commercial experience in a wholesale/full bank or financial institution.
• Prior experience in risk and control, operational risk, regulatory reporting, internal audit, or compliance is a strong advantage.
• Hands‑on familiarity with incident management systems (e.g., Connected Risk / GRC tools).
• Exposure to MAS and/or other APAC regulatory regimes preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication; summarize complex issues concisely for senior management.

Responsibilities

• Review operational incidents reported by APAC offices and assess RCA and preventive actions.
• Provide independent challenge to reporters and ensure closure of related action plans.
• Monitor risk exposure and prepare IR emails for incidents meeting thresholds.
• Contribute to APAC and Head Office reporting and management meetings.
• Engage with first-line and second-line stakeholders to drive remediation.
• Support process enhancements, automation, dashboards and workflow tools.
• Advise APAC offices on Head Office rules and the use of Connected Risk.
• Support audits and regulatory inspections and respond to observations.
• Identify AI use cases for incident analysis and reporting automation.
