Job summary

Alliance to End Plastic Waste seeks an experienced Specialist to accelerate AI, automation and digital enablement within a 6-month delivery-focused contract. Job description

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Specialist to accelerate the delivery of AI, automation and digital enablement initiatives supporting our organisational effectiveness programme.

This is a delivery-focused role for someone who can work directly with business teams to understand processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and rapidly design, build and deploy practical solutions within our Microsoft 365 environment.

The initial portfolio will consist of several focused solutions rather than one large technology implementation. These will include AI agents, workflow automation, digitalisation of business processes, AI use cases, knowledge solutions, dashboards and role-based AI enablement.

The successful candidate should be equally comfortable discussing a process with a non-technical business owner and then independently building the solution.

This is a 6-month contract role.

Key Responsibilities

1. AI & Copilot Solutions

• Design, build, test and deploy AI agents using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Microsoft 365 Copilot capabilities.
• Develop knowledge-based agents connected to approved organisational information sources.
• Translate identified business AI use cases into practical solutions.
• Ensure AI solutions respect existing Microsoft 365 permissions, security controls and information governance requirements.
• Help establish reusable approaches and standards for deploying AI agents across the organisation.

2. Power Platform & Process Automation

• Design and implement workflow automation using Power Automate, Power Apps and Dataverse.
• Work with process owners to understand current workflows and identify opportunities for simplification, automation and digitalisation.
• Rapidly prototype solutions, incorporate user feedback and move successful prototypes into production.
• Integrate solutions with Microsoft 365 services and, where appropriate, other enterprise platforms.
• Ensure solutions are supportable, appropriately documented and maintainable after handover.

3. Microsoft 365 Digital Enablement

• Support digitalisation initiatives arising from organisational effectiveness and other business workstreams.
• Build solutions using appropriate Microsoft technologies, including SharePoint Online, Teams, Power Platform and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
• Design appropriate SharePoint structures, metadata, permissions and information organisation.
• Develop practical dashboards or reporting using Power BI where required.
• Help ensure that new solutions complement existing organisational platforms rather than duplicate them.

4. AI Adoption & Capability Building

• Support the development of role-based AI training for different business functions.
• Translate AI capabilities into practical examples relevant to employees' day-to-day work.
• Develop demonstrations, prototypes and use cases that help employees understand how AI and automation can improve their work.
• Work with internal champions and business teams to encourage responsible adoption of approved AI capabilities.

5. Governance, Security & Responsible AI

• Design solutions in accordance with Microsoft 365 security and governance requirements.
• Apply appropriate consideration to Entra ID roles and permissions, Microsoft Purview, sensitivity labels and Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
• Ensure solutions follow least-privilege and existing data-access principles.
• Support periodic review of access to solutions containing confidential or NDA-protected information.
• Use only organisationally approved Microsoft 365 AI capabilities for organisational information.

6. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Maintain concise technical and functional documentation for all solutions developed.
• Document solution architecture, configuration, integrations, permissions and support requirements.
• Conduct structured knowledge transfer to the internal IT team.
• Ensure every delivered solution has an identified internal owner and a clear support and handover model.
• Avoid creating solutions that become dependent on the contractor for ongoing operation.

Experience & Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and delivering production solutions using Microsoft Power Platform.
• Strong practical experience with Microsoft Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse, SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365.
• Demonstrable experience building solutions using Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot agents, or comparable Microsoft agent capabilities.
• Experience taking solutions from business requirement through prototype, testing and production deployment.
• Good understanding of SharePoint information architecture, including libraries, metadata, permissions and content organisation.
• Working knowledge of Power BI sufficient to develop business dashboards and reporting.
• Understanding of Microsoft 365 security, permissions and information governance.
• Ability to work directly with non-technical business stakeholders to translate business problems into practical digital solutions.
• Strong documentation and knowledge-transfer discipline.
• Comfort working iteratively in short delivery cycles and handling several relatively small solutions concurrently.
• Relevant current Microsoft certifications are advantageous, particularly qualifications relating to Microsoft Power Platform, Power BI, Azure AI, and Microsoft Copilot and AI applications. (Certifications are desirable rather than mandatory. Demonstrable hands-on delivery experience is more important.)
