Hougang Secondary School is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support daily practical lessons and meal preparations in the school kitchens. You will prepare, portion and distribute ingredients, assist with weekly orders, and help maintain hygiene and safety across kitchens, office areas and storage.

The role requires at least one year of kitchen experience, familiarity with food safety practices, and good teamwork and time-management in a busy educational setting.

Competenze

• At least 1 year of experience in school or commercial kitchens.
• Knowledge of food safety and handling is preferred; Level 1 course preferred.
• PSLE pass is preferred.
• Good organisation, time management, communication and teamwork in a busy kitchen.

Name of Authority: Hougang Secondary School

Contract Period: 1 January to 31 October 2027.

Option period: 1 January to 31 October 2028.

Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:

• Mondays to Thursdays: 7:00am to 4:00pm; Fridays: 7:00am to 3:30pm. Each day includes a 30-minute lunch break.
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays. Extended hours may be requested, with time off in lieu under the tender arrangements.
• General cleaning is required on Fridays, with thorough cleaning during June and September school holidays as assigned.

Requirements:

• At least one year of experience in school kitchens or commercial kitchens.
• Knowledge of food and kitchen safety and food-handling skills are preferred; relevant Food Safety Course Level 1 certification is preferred.
• A PSLE pass is preferred.
• Organisation, time-management, communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to work in a busy kitchen environment, are preferred.

Job Scopes:

The Services required are set out as follows:

1. 1. Prepare, portion and distribute ingredients before daily practical lessons.
2. 2. Assist weekly ingredient orders, receive deliveries and verify quantities, quality and specifications.
3. 3. Label and store ingredients safely, monitor storage temperatures and rotate stock.
4. 4. Check inventories of ingredients, utensils, equipment and supplies in the Kitchens, NFS Office and NFS Investigation Hub.
5. 5. Inspect and clean utensils, appliances and cooking equipment; report defects promptly to the teacher-in-charge.
6. 6. Maintain cleanliness, hygiene and safety of NFS rooms, workstations and storage areas, including scheduled general and thorough cleaning.
7. 7. Provide basic administrative and office support for teachers' teaching and learning activities.
