Job summary

Arcus Search in Stockholm is seeking a Technical Lead / Principal Engineer to drive architectural decisions in high-scale fintech platforms and own the technical direction.

This hands-on leadership role requires deep backend experience, strong system design, and a product mindset, with collaboration across Payments, Banking infrastructure, Risk and Data teams. You will mentor engineers and raise engineering standards while contributing meaningful code.

Technical Lead / Principal Engineer | Stockholm

We are hiring multiple Technical Leads / Principal Engineers across several product and platform teams within a global fintech environment operating at significant scale.

Tech stack (you must have strong experience with AWS as well as one of the following pairings):

• Java Backend
• Python Backend
• Python Full Stack (Python + React)
• Node Full Stack (Node, TypeScript, React)

Do not apply if you are not at technical lead / principal level

These teams sit across Payments, Banking infrastructure, Dunning and Collections, Reconciliation, Risk and Core Platform - all mission-critical systems processing millions of transactions and financial events daily.

This is a hands‑on leadership role. You will own technical direction, drive architectural decisions and raise engineering standards while still contributing meaningful code.

What you will be doing:

• Leading system design and architectural decisions for high-scale distributed systems
• Owning technical strategy within your team and influencing cross-team engineering standards
• Mentoring senior engineers and shaping technical culture
• Driving modernisation, performance optimisation and resilience improvements
• Partnering closely with Product, Data and Risk teams to deliver business‑critical initiatives
• Ensuring high reliability, observability and maintainability across complex systems

We are particularly interested in engineers who have:

• Built and scaled high-throughput payment or financial systems
• Worked on banking infrastructure, ledgering, reconciliation engines or transaction processing systems
• Led dunning, collections, credit or risk platforms
• Designed APIs and event‑driven architectures in distributed environments
• Strong experience with cloud‑native systems and modern DevOps practices

You should bring:

• Principal or senior technical leadership experience
• Deep backend engineering and AWS expertise
• Strong system design skills across distributed systems
