Stockholm-based opportunity with relocation support. This is a hands-on architectural leadership role with a clear pathway to CTO in a high-growth gaming technology company.

Stockholm (Relocation Supported) | Hands-on Architecture | Pathway to CTO

This is not a role for someone who wants to step away from engineering.

I’m working with one of Europe’s most successful gaming technology companies on a key technical leadership hire in Stockholm.

The person joining will take increasing ownership of the platform at the heart of the business, a high-volume transactional system responsible for a significant proportion of company revenue.

The mandate is simple: understand it deeply, improve it intelligently and help shape where it goes next.

You’ll work closely with the founder, lead a small engineering team and remain genuinely hands-on across architecture, code and the difficult technical decisions that come with operating a critical platform at scale.

Over time, there is a clear pathway to much broader technical ownership and ultimately the CTO position.

What you’ll be working on

The core environment is primarily C#/.NET, SQL and Redis, with a strong emphasis on:

• High-volume transactional systems
• Performance and scalability
• Data integrity and correctness
• Reliability and uptime
• Backend and API architecture
• Testing and code quality
• Production ownership and incident resolution
• Keeping architecture pragmatic as the platform scales

The engineering team is deliberately small. This is not about managing layers of people or creating process for the sake of it.

They want someone who can sit with the developers, understand what is happening in the codebase and make strong technical decisions when they matter.

The bigger picture

While the core platform remains the priority, the company is far from standing still.

They are actively investing in new technology and exploring prediction markets and other emerging gaming verticals, with an appetite to build products in areas that are still very early.

That creates an unusual combination:

Take ownership of an established, highly profitable platform while being part of a business still willing to make ambitious technical bets on what comes next.

Who could fit?

I’m less interested in whether you already have a CTO title.

You might currently be a:

Technical Lead / Lead Developer / Principal Engineer / Staff Engineer / Software Architect

What matters is that you:

• Are still a strong hands-on engineer
• Are comfortable owning architecture rather than simply contributing to it
• Have worked on systems where scale, transactions, uptime and correctness matter
• Understand SQL beyond simply using an ORM
• Can lead a small group of strong engineers without becoming a people manager
• Prefer simple, robust engineering over unnecessary complexity
• Want substantially more ownership than your current role gives you

Backgrounds in fintech, payments, trading, banking, marketplaces, high-volume SaaS or other transaction-heavy platforms are particularly interesting.

Gaming experience is not required.

This is ultimately for someone who still thinks like an engineer but wants the opportunity to become responsible for the technology behind an entire business.
