Job summary

Worldline is seeking an experienced Principal Tech Lead to make a broad technical impact across multiple engineering teams in Stockholm. You will guide architectural vision, mentor senior engineers, and deliver resilient, enterprise-grade payment platforms.

You will lead hands-on design across squads, drive modernization and cloud adoption, and collaborate with DevSecOps, QA, Security, and Product teams to meet functional and non-functional requirements. Hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent.
• Full working proficiency in English.
• Extensive experience as a Principal Engineer or Senior Technical Leader.
• Proven track record delivering cross-team software in enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, and cloud-native apps.
• Experience driving architecture modernization and platform transformation.
• Mentoring technical leaders and influencing practices across teams.
• Knowledge of DevSecOps, CI/CD, observability, security, and performance engineering.

In this position, you will be based in Stockholm and report to the Head of Engineering. As a Principal Tech Lead, you will provide technical leadership across multiple squads, ensuring architectural vision is translated into high-quality, production-ready solutions. Working closely with Mission Architects, Squad Tech Leads, DevSecOps, QA, Security, and Product teams, you will play a pivotal role in enabling the successful delivery of strategic technology initiatives that support Worldline's payment platforms across Europe.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and implementation of complex initiatives spanning multiple engineering squads
• Partner with Squad Tech Leads to solve high-risk and high-complexity technical challenges and accelerate delivery
• Act as a hands-on technical contributor where deep expertise is required, contributing to critical solution design and software implementation
• Translate architectural guidance into practical engineering patterns, reusable frameworks, and reference implementations
• Drive architectural modernization initiatives, supporting platform evolution, cloud adoption, and technology transformation
• Collaborate closely with Mission Architects, DevSecOps, QA, Security, and Product teams to ensure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements
• Identify systemic engineering challenges and improvement opportunities, escalating recommendations to Guild Leads and Architects
• Champion engineering best practices, technical quality, and operational excellence across multiple squads
• Support technical decision-making, risk management, and cross-team dependency planning
• Mentor Tech Leads and senior engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing throughout the engineering organization

You combine deep technical expertise with strong collaboration skills and have a proven ability to influence engineering direction across multiple teams. You thrive in fast-paced environments, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

On Top Of That, You Have

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
• Full working proficiency in English
• Extensive experience as a Principal Engineer, Principal Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, Lead Software Engineer, or similar senior technical leadership role
• Proven experience leading complex, cross-team software delivery in enterprise environments
• Strong expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, cloud-native applications, and modern engineering practices
• Experience driving architecture modernization, platform transformation, and technical strategy
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve high-impact technical risks
• Strong experience mentoring technical leaders and influencing engineering practices across multiple teams
• Deep understanding of DevSecOps, CI/CD, observability, security, scalability, resilience, and performance engineering
• Experience working within Agile product development organizations
• Knowledge of the payments industry is considered a strong advantage
