Job summary

Backlight is a global media technology company seeking a Staff Product Designer to own the strategic direction and product architecture for our core platform. You’ll translate complex business logic and user needs into scalable design frameworks and exceptional user experiences, driving impact from vision to delivery.

You will collaborate with Engineering and Product leadership to shape roadmaps, expand the design system, and mentor senior designers, ensuring tradeoffs are well-defended to

Qualifications

• A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of complex B2B SaaS platforms.
• 2-3+ years at the Staff- or senior level, with proven impact in ambiguous environments.
• Ability to translate fragmented inputs (analytics, feedback) into strategic design decisions.
• Expertise in Figma, component architecture, and design system expansion.
• Skill in framing tradeoffs and defending decisions to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own ambiguous problem spaces, synthesizing research and data into clear design patterns.
• Partner with Engineering and Product leadership to shape roadmaps and elevate design strategy.
• Translate complex business logic into scalable design frameworks.
• Define and expand our design system and component architecture.
• Mentor senior designers and contribute to our design practices.
• Frame tradeoffs and defend design decisions to leadership.
