Job summary

Mynt is seeking an experienced Backend Staff Engineer to lead the re-architecture of the Expense system within a 40+ engineering team. You will collaborate with Product Managers and other stakeholders to shape the technical roadmap and ensure scalable, robust solutions.

You will mentor junior engineers, champion clean architecture and CI/CD practices, and deliver enterprise-grade software with high availability and reliability. You thrive in an agile environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Strong backend development experience in Java with high-availability systems.
• Experience with MongoDB, MySQL, Redis, AWS, Docker, and CircleCI is a strong plus.
• Passion for growing as an engineer and leader, delivering enterprise-grade solutions.
• Team-first mindset and ability to work across multiple teams.
• Fluent in Swedish and English.

About the Role

As a Backend Staff Engineer, you are part of our 40+ engineering organization. You will lead the re-architecture of our Expense system, which sits at the core of Mynt's product line. Many teams build customer-facing products on top of it, which makes clear API contracts and scalability critical. As our product matures and we move into new markets, the requirements are growing. It needs to support advanced features like mileage, reimbursements, agentic workflows and custom spend rules, and adapt to what we have not seen yet. You will do this in the Expense team and in close collaboration with its stakeholders.

We are looking for an experienced engineer who is passionate about tackling architectural challenges and managing work that spans multiple teams and highly complex domains. You enjoy working in an entrepreneurial environment where you will influence both the product and the company’s direction. Together with Product Managers and other functions, you set long‑term goals and break them down into manageable parts. Alongside your peers in similar roles, you identify requirements and set the technical roadmap. You are a strong and driven collaborator and can mentor junior colleagues. Throughout, you deliver user value and robust solutions iteratively.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience

• A high level of experience in backend development using Java, with a proven track record of building robust, long‑term software solutions with very high availability and accuracy demands.

• Experience with MongoDB, MySQL, Redis, AWS, Docker, and CircleCI is a strong plus.

• You have a genuine curiosity for growing as an engineer and leader, and take real pride in your craft, consistently delivering robust, enterprise‑grade solutions and architectures.

• You have a team‑first approach and enjoy solving problems both in a multidisciplinary team setting and across multiple teams.

• You have a learning and ever improving mindset and a will to share your insights and improve your surroundings.

• You are proactive in identifying and solving problems that arise when developing our products.
