Job summary

Saab is seeking a versatile Software Developer and Data Scientist to bridge software engineering and data science, hybrid in Sweden. You will build Python-based backends, craft AI/ML models, and manage ETL with Airflow to extract insights from aircraft operation data.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proven experience with Python including Pandas, NumPy, PyTorch, TensorFlow / Keras and related packages.
• Experience with data warehousing and data reliability/observability tools.
• Knowledge in AI/ML engineering, anomaly detection, and deployment of LLM-based systems.
• Experience in designing RESTful APIs and backend services using FastAPI, Flask, or similar.
• Familiarity with Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and workflow orchestration (Airflow).

We are seeking a versatile person to join our team in a hybrid role as a Software Developer and Data Scientist. The ideal candidate is someone who bridges the gap between robust software engineering and data science. You will be responsible for developing high-quality, scalable applications while leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to derive actionable insights from complex operation and maintenance data generated from aircraft system - JAS 39 Gripen. You will design and maintain scalable Python-based backend solutions while building the AI/ML models that drive our analysis of operation and maintenance data. Your work will directly impact predictive maintenance and demand forecasting across various operational dimensions. From architecting Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines and Airflow orchestration to deploying LLM-based systems and Plotly dashboards, you will own the entire data journey—from raw source to strategic insight.

Your role

• System Development: Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Python, ensuring code is maintainable, efficient, and robust.
• AI & Machine Learning: Implement advanced AI/ML models, including LLM orchestration, multi-agent frameworks, and prompt engineering to solve complex problems.
• Data Engineering: Build and optimize end-to-end ETL pipelines managing both batch and real-time data flows using tools like Airflow.
• Predictive Analytics: Model equipment behavior, failure modes, and degradation patterns to develop sophisticated predictive maintenance strategies and demand forecasting.
• Visualization & Insight: Transform complex datasets into clarity by designing sleek, user-focused dashboards and visualizations using Plotly and other modern tools.
• Infrastructure & DevOps: Manage containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes, utilizing Git for version control and maintaining continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) pipelines.

Your profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proven experience with Python, including the use of Pandas, NumPy, PyTorch, TensorFlow / Keras and related packages.
• Experience with data warehousing, and data reliability/observability tools.
• Knowledge within AI/ML engineering, anomaly detection, and the deployment of LLM-based systems.
• Experience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs and backend services using frameworks such as Fast API, Flask, or similar.
• Familiarity with Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and workflow orchestration (e.g., Airflow).
