Job summary

Highfield Professional Solutions Ltd is seeking a Senior Site Engineer for a major infrastructure project in Cambridge, predominantly night shifts. You will lead setting-out, surveying and coordination of subcontractors to deliver works safely and to specification.

The role offers £400 per shift, with an initial 3-month contract and a guaranteed extension to a 6-month rolling contract subject to performance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Site Engineer on civil/infra projects.
• EUSR Level 1 and Level 2 are essential.
• Strong setting-out and surveying experience.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specs.
• Experience coordinating subcontractors and site works.
• Good QA, site docs, and health & safety knowledge.
• Ability to work independently and hit the ground running.
• Willingness to work nights and occasional days.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day site engineering activities, mainly during night shifts.
• Set out, survey, and maintain dimensional control per drawings and specs.
• Ensure works meet quality standards and project requirements.
• Interpret drawings and specs; resolve engineering issues.

Location: Cambridge
Rate: £400 per shift

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting an experienced Senior Site Engineer to join a major infrastructure project on the SDS Framework in Cambridge. This is predominantly a night-shift role, with the possibility of occasional day shifts as required. The position offers an initial 3-month contract, with a guaranteed extension to a 6-month rolling contract, provided the successful candidate meets the required performance and project expectations. The rate is £400 per shift, whether working nights or the occasional day shift, with CIS and LTD company payment options available. We are looking for a hands-on Senior Site Engineer who can hit the ground running, take ownership of engineering activities on site and ensure works are delivered safely, accurately and in line with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate day-to-day site engineering activities, primarily during night shifts.
• Carry out setting out, surveying and dimensional control in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Ensure engineering works are completed accurately and to the required quality standards.
• Interpret construction drawings, specifications and technical information, resolving engineering issues as they arise.
• Coordinate subcontractors and site teams to ensure works progress safely and efficiently.
• Maintain accurate site records, survey information, as-built drawings and quality documentation.
• Complete and manage permits, inspection records and relevant quality assurance documentation as required.
• Monitor progress against the programme and communicate any delays, technical issues or potential risks.
• Liaise with site management, subcontractors and the wider project team to ensure smooth delivery of the works.
• Ensure all activities comply with project procedures, health and safety requirements and relevant construction standards.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Senior Site Engineer on civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• EUSR Level 1 and EUSR Level 2 - both essential.
• Strong setting-out and surveying experience.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience coordinating subcontractors and supporting the delivery of site works.
• Good understanding of quality assurance, site documentation and health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of engineering activities and hit the ground running.
• Flexibility to work nights and occasional day shifts when required.
