Job summary

Five Nines Sweden AB is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Lead to steer mechanical and plumbing design for mission-critical data center projects. You will manage external consultants, provide technical oversight of HVAC and cooling systems, and ensure compliance with ASHRAE, code, and Uptime standards.

You will lead a multi-discipline design team, coordinate in BIM, and serve as the primary contact for clients and authorities, delivering on time and to budget while maintaining high design

Qualifications

• 10+ years of design/engineering experience.
• Experience directing external design consultants in EPC/design-build environments.
• English fluency required; Swedish speaking is a plus.
• Data center mechanical systems knowledge (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).

Senior Mechanical Design Lead - Data Center EPC

Five Nines is an EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) firm delivering mission-critical data center projects. We're looking for an experienced Senior Design Manager – Mechanical to lead mechanical (including piping and plumbing) design delivery across our data center projects.

Reporting to the Head of Design, you will act as the technical authority and single point of accountability for mechanical and plumbing design on assigned projects, directing and quality-controlling the work of external engineering consultants and ensuring designs are delivered on time, on budget and to the technical, safety and operational standards our mission-critical facilities demand.

What you will do:

• Direct, brief, and manage external mechanical consultants from concept through to issued-for-construction and as-built documentation, holding them accountable for scope, fee, quality and schedule.
• Review and challenge consultant deliverables, such as but not limited to calculations, schematics, drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules before every issue.
• Provide senior technical oversight of HVAC and cooling system design for data centers, including CRAH/CRAC units, chilled water systems, chillers, free/adiabatic cooling, and airflow management.
• Oversee plumbing, drainage, and fire protection design, including special hazard suppression systems typical of data center white space.
• Ensure designs comply with ASHRAE, local codes, and Uptime Institute Tier requirements, supporting N, N+1, and 2N resiliency targets.
• Act as mechanical/plumbing lead within the multi-discipline design team, resolving clashes through structured, BIM-based coordination reviews.
• Serve as the primary mechanical/plumbing point of contact for clients, authorities, third-party reviewers, and commissioning agents.

What you bring:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of relevant design/engineering experience, ideally in mission-critical, data center, or complex industrial facilities.
• Proven experience managing or directing external design consultants within an EPC, design-build or major capital projects environment.
• Strong working knowledge of BIM-based design coordination in Revit and associated platforms.
• Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and consultant teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with sound commercial awareness and a rigorous approach to design quality assurance.
• Fluent in English is a requirement, Swedish speaking is a plus but not necessary
