Job summary

Winthrop Technologies seeks an experienced Mechanical Lead to head on-site mechanical works for a data centre project in Skelleftea, Sweden. You will lead all mechanical activities, coordinate with the broader team, and ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence on site.

The role requires strong leadership, 7+ years in mechanical construction, and a track record of delivering HVAC and piping systems on major projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, or similar discipline.
• 7+ years experience in mechanical construction with leadership background.
• Experience managing HVAC, piping, and associated services on large-scale construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical coordination, sequencing, and programme delivery.
• Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of installation methods and commissioning processes.
• Proven ability to lead subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all mechanical activities across the project lifecycle.
• Oversee day-to-day mechanical site operations with the wider project team.
• Ensure QA/QC processes are implemented and maintained to project specs.
• Coordinate project schedules with planners, PMs, subcontractors, consultants and design teams.
• Manage mechanical subcontractor performance, including progress tracking and manpower planning.
• Maintain and update all subcontractor documentation, including safety documents.
• Chair and attend Site Meetings, Engineering Reviews, Planning Meetings and handover meetings.
• Liaise with design team to align construction information with programme requirements.
• Review drawings and technical submittals for effective coordination of mechanical systems.
• Drive health & safety standards and promote a strong safety culture.
• Support commercial management through tracking variations and cost control.
• Prepare and issue progress reports to senior management and stakeholders.
• Oversee mechanical snagging activities and ensure timely close-out.
• Identify and resolve technical, design, and coordination issues proactively.

We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Lead to join our project team in Skelleftea, Sweden. This role will be responsible for leading all Mechanical works on site, ensuring delivery is achieved safely, on programme, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

• Lead and manage all Mechanical activities across the project lifecycle
• Oversee and coordinate day-to-day mechanical site operations with the wider project team
• Ensure QA/QC processes are implemented and maintained in line with project specifications and standards
• Coordinate project schedules with Planners, Project Managers, subcontractors, consultants, and design teams
• Manage mechanical subcontractor performance, including progress tracking, manpower planning, and coordination meetings
• Ensure all subcontractor documentation, including safety documentation, is maintained and up to date
• Chair and attend Site Meetings, Engineering Reviews, Planning Meetings, and Handover Meetings
• Liaise with the design team to ensure construction information and technical submissions are aligned with programme requirements
• Review drawings, technical submittals, and ensure effective coordination of mechanical systems
• Drive health & safety standards and promote a strong safety culture across mechanical activities
• Support commercial management through tracking variations, cost control, and attendance at weekly commercial meetings

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, or similar discipline
• Minimum 7+ years experience within the mechanical construction sector, with a strong leadership background
• Proven experience managing mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, and associated services) on large-scale construction projects
• Strong knowledge of mechanical coordination, sequencing, and programme delivery
• Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
• Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems, installation methodologies, and commissioning processes
• Proven ability to lead subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects successfully
• Data centre, industrial, or mission-critical project experience is advantageous
