Job summary

Qred, a fast-growing fintech scale-up, seeks a Senior Java Developer to own backend systems powering core financial products. You will work in a cross-functional team, delivering secure, high-throughput services and shaping system architecture in production.

You will leverage Java, Spring, and PostgreSQL, while deploying on AWS and using AI tools to boost velocity without compromising quality. The role is based in Stockholm with remote flexibility one day per week.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend experience, preferably fintech or regulated environments.
• Deep mastery of Java, Spring, and data persistence with JPA/Hibernate.
• Relational database design and optimization with PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

• Own the backend microservices architecture and APIs powering core products.
• Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver robust features.
• Apply AI tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate development and maintain code quality.
• Ensure system reliability via logging, tracing, and AWS-based deployments.
• Enforce security best practices and peer-review processes.

About The Role

As a Java Developer at Qred, you will take end-to-end technical ownership of the backend systems that power our core financial products. Working within a cross-functional team of developers, UX designers, and product managers, you’ll serve as a mission-critical bridge between complex third-party integrations and a seamless user experience.

We trust our engineers to design, implement, test, deploy daily, and operate their own software in production, giving you direct control and architectural input over the future of our financial platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Build secure, high-throughput backend microservices using Java and Spring, optimizing complex data flows across PostgreSQL databases.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Tech Leads, and cross-functional teammates to design efficient APIs and system logic that enhance the core user journey.
• Lead by example as an early adopter of agentic workflows - using AI tools and MCP (Model Context Protocol) to accelerate feature discovery, implementation, and code quality.
• Ensure high system availability by maintaining robust logging, tracing, and alerting frameworks within AWS.
• Maintain high standards of security and compliance by enforcing best practices, system integrity, and thorough peer-review workflows.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a seasoned backend engineer who can tackle complex architectural challenges effortlessly at the core of our business. You thrive in a flat, non-bureaucratic environment, possess a strong team spirit, and take pride in building long-term scalable frameworks.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience writing, releasing, and maintaining production-grade backend applications (fintech or regulated environment experience is a strong plus).
• Deep technical mastery in Java, Spring Framework, and JPA/Hibernate for data persistence.
• Advanced knowledge of relational database design, optimization, and management using PostgreSQL.
• Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for deploying, monitoring, and maintaining scalable cloud services.
• Proficiency with AI development tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code to drive engineering velocity without sacrificing code quality.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in our headquarters in Stockholm. We believe our culture thrives when we work together, which is why we have an office-first approach.
