Job summary

AstraZeneca Gothenburg is seeking a Senior Scientist for Clinical AI to advance AI methods in clinical trial design, dose optimization, and biomarker strategies. You will work with cross-functional teams across cardiovascular, renal, metabolic, respiratory, and immunology areas, applying modern AI techniques to accelerate drug development and drive reliable decision-making.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g. CS, ML, statistics, bioinformatics) or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated AI/ML method development in clinical/biomedical settings.
• Hands-on experience with biological/clinical data (molecular, imaging, EHR/clinical notes).
• Strong Python, PyTorch, LLM tooling; cloud platform familiarity (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate methods into insights for clinical/scientific audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy AI/ML methods for clinical trials, including design support, dose optimisation, and safety signal detection.
• Lead end-to-end project delivery from problem framing to validation and adoption in study teams.
• Partner with Clinical Development, Biometrics, and Regulatory teams to embed AI approaches in study design.
• Build reusable, well-documented data products (pipelines, packages, apps) with a software engineering mindset.
• Apply foundation models, agentic AI, Bayesian methods, and causal inference with clear evaluation criteria.
• Contribute to data-centric AI evaluation, benchmarking, and publications within scientific communities.
• Engage with internal and external partners to advance AI research and clinical impact.
