Job summary

Spotify is seeking a Senior Backend Data Engineer to design and scale systems powering content understanding across audio, video, text, and images. You’ll own major engineering projects end-to-end, collaborating with engineers, product, and tech stakeholders in a fast-moving environment.

You’ll work at the intersection of backend, data, ML infrastructure, and AI, contributing to production-grade content processing and experimentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering experience in backend and/or data engineering.
• Deep expertise in backend or data engineering with cross-discipline comfort.
• Experience building and scaling large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Scala, and Python.
• Ability to design scalable, reliable, high-performance, cost-aware systems.
• Capable of end-to-end ownership of complex engineering problems.
• Excellent communication with engineering, product, and technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve scalable backend and data systems for content intelligence.
• Take end-to-end ownership of significant engineering projects from design to operation.
• Build reliable infra for large-scale content processing across media types.
• Create RFCs and influence architectural decisions across squads.
• Develop cost-efficient systems for high-throughput data workloads.
• Collaborate with distributed data systems and content-management infra.
• Work with engineers to plan and deliver technical solutions.
• Contribute to AI/LLM workflows and infrastructure at scale.
