Job summary

SCRL is a purpose-built social media design platform trusted by millions of creators worldwide. We are seeking a Senior Android Engineer to own features end-to-end within a dynamic product team, collaborating with product, design, and other engineers from ideation to release and iteration.

You will work on Android apps with a strong focus on architecture, best practices, and measurable impact, leveraging Jetpack Compose, Gradle, ExoPlayer, and more to deliver high-quality experiences.

About The Role

We're looking for a talented Senior Android Engineer to help build, maintain, and optimize our app as an integral part of a dynamic product development team. You’ll have significant ownership over the features you build, working closely with product, design, and engineering from initial idea and planning through implementation, release, measurement, and iteration.

What you will do

• Create high-quality and robust features, owning the development process from planning to final delivery and beyond.
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to plan and ensure high-quality results.
• Own features end-to-end: scope them with product and design, build and ship them, then use real-world usage data and experimentation results to improve them.
• Work with the engineering team to ensure best practices, sound architecture, and code standards are followed.
• Leverage usage data and experimentation results to evaluate the performance and impact of released features, troubleshoot potential issues, and ideate new hypotheses for further iterations.
• Design effective, maintainable abstractions and solve complex technical problems as the product and codebase evolve.
• Contribute to roadmap planning, technical decisions, code reviews, problem-solving, and testing sessions.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the Android ecosystem, including developer tools, libraries, and new Android APIs.
• Help evolve our Android architecture and development practices across a large and growing codebase.

You should have

• Extensive experience in Android development and Kotlin.
• Experience working on consumer apps with large user bases.
• A proven track record of delivering excellent, reliable, and maintainable code.
• A talent for technical problem-solving and designing effective abstractions.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and design patterns, with experience working with architectures such as MVVM and MVI.
• An ability to communicate concepts, trade-offs, and solutions clearly and effectively to internal stakeholders.
• An ability to work at a high pace without compromising quality.
• A can-do attitude: you’re a self-motivated problem solver with an eye for detail and an internal drive for excellence.

It’s a big plus if you have experience with

• Jetpack Compose, particularly building complex, custom UI rather than only standard application screens.
• The Android View system, especially experience working across both Views and Compose while migrating legacy screens.
• Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) and, ideally, experience shipping production features that share code between Android and iOS.
• Gradle and large multi-module codebases, including experience navigating and improving complex build setups.
• Media pipelines, such as FFmpeg, MediaCodec, ExoPlayer, OpenGL, NDK, or C++. Experience in this area is uncommon and particularly valuable to us.
• End-to-end ownership of shipped features, including scoping with product and design, implementation, release, measurement, and subsequent iteration.
• Experience maintaining and evolving large-scale consumer applications with a significant active user base.
