Job summary

Kintec Global Recruitment is seeking a Contractor Safety Coordinator to ensure the safety of contractors and site teams on a large industrial site. You will lead site safety introductions, manage work permits, and coordinate emergency response and risk management.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lead safety walks, BAS-U backup activities and BAS-U meetings, and to follow up on contractor actions.
  • Competence in identifying electrical management risks and enforcing lockout/tagout and safe isolation procedures.
  • Strong record-keeping skills and experience updating health and safety statistics, incident logging, and performance dashboards.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to coach contractors and build collaborative relationships.

Job description

Work every two weeks (currently even weeks) - 7 days on (7 days off)

Description

The Contractor Safety Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring the safety of contractors and site teams on a large industrial site. This role leads site safety introductions, manages work permits, and coordinates emergency response and risk management activities to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead site introductions and contractor onboarding to communicate site-specific safety expectations, access controls, and emergency procedures.
  • Issue and manage work permits, including hot work, confined space, and electrical permits, ensuring permit conditions are met before work starts.
  • Coordinate contractors' follow-up activities to verify corrective actions, close observations, and maintain contractor performance records.
  • Develop, maintain, and exercise the Emergency Response Plan with contractors and internal stakeholders; coordinate drills and evaluate outcomes.
  • Manage chemical exposure risks by reviewing safety data sheets, required controls, PPE, and work methods for contractor tasks involving hazardous substances.
  • Oversee waste handling management for contractor-generated waste streams, ensuring segregation, labelling, temporary storage, and safe removal in line with regulations.
  • Lead Bas-U meetings and act as Bas-U backup to ensure continuity of safety leadership, agenda management, and follow-through on actions.
  • Identify and mitigate electrical management risks by reviewing lockout/tagout procedures, electrical permits, and contractor qualifications for live work.
  • Lead safety walks and site inspections with contractors and operations teams, documenting findings and tracking corrective actions.
  • Capture and update health and safety statistics, compiling contractor performance metrics, incident reports, and trends to inform targeted interventions.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Familiarity with environmental regulations related to waste handling and hazardous materials on industrial sites.
  • First responder or emergency coordinator training and practical drill facilitation experience.
Deliverables & Success Metrics
  • Timely completion of contractor site introductions and documented inductions for all on-site contractors.
  • Accurate issuance and closure of work permits with zero high-risk permit exceptions and measurable reduction in permit non-conformances.
  • Completed emergency response plan reviews and at least one full-scale or tabletop drill annually with documented lessons learned.
  • Regular BAS-U meeting minutes and high follow-up action closure rates.
  • Monthly health and safety statistics and contractor performance reports showing trending improvements in key indicators.
  • Reduction in chemical exposure incidents and improved compliance in waste handling audits year-over-year.
Tools, Technologies & Domain Context

Familiarity with permit-to-work systems, incident management and reporting tools, basic data analytics for safety metrics, and safety inspection checklists is required. Experience with electronic permit systems, contractor management platforms, and communication tools for coordinating meetings and emergency notifications is advantageous. The role is based in an operational, industrial, or construction-adjacent environment with frequent contractor interfaces, hazardous materials, and electrical risks, offering opportunities for measurable safety impact and career growth in safety leadership.
