Job summary

emagine is seeking a backend-focused engineer to design and operate scalable services and APIs. You will work with Java and Scala, shaping data models for auditability and versioning, and contribute to batch pipelines using Apache Beam and Cloud Dataflow on GCP or comparable clouds.

You will also manage infrastructure as code, implement strong security controls, and navigate regulated environments, collaborating across teams to deliver reliable, compliant systems.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating backend services and APIs at production scale.
• Proficiency in Java or Scala (ideally both) since services are Java-based and pipelines in Scala.
• Understanding API design, schema evolution, and backward compatibility in systems where stability matters.
• Ability to model data for auditability, versioning, and efficient querying (wide-column stores).
• Experience with data pipelines and tradeoffs between real-time and batch processing.
• Familiarity with cloud data services: object storage, NoSQL, messaging, and data warehouses (GCP or other major cloud).
• Infrastructure as code and solid security fundamentals including encryption at rest and access control.

Responsibilities
