Job summary

Volvo Financial Services seeks a Privacy Manager to partner with Legal & Compliance, Information Security, Digital & IT, and product teams in Gothenburg. You will translate GDPR and data protection requirements into practical, scalable programs and advise senior leadership on regulatory developments.

You will lead DPIAs, risk assessments, RoPA maintenance, and privacy incident response, fostering a culture of privacy accountability across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in law, business law, compliance, information management, information security, or a related field; legal qualification or equivalent privacy/compliance background preferred.
  • 5–8 years of experience in privacy, data protection, compliance, or related regulatory function in a multinational environment.
  • Experience leading privacy governance initiatives across jurisdictions; advising senior stakeholders on regulatory compliance, governance and risk.
  • Strong knowledge of GDPR and global privacy frameworks, data lifecycle, and risk and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Embed Privacy by Design across initiatives, products, processes, and technology.

As Privacy Manager, you will act as a trusted advisor to management and business stakeholders, translating legal and regulatory requirements into practical and sustainable business solutions. This role provides strategic direction on privacy governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, and emerging digital regulations, and encourages a culture of privacy accountability across the organization.

In this position, you will collaborate closely with colleagues in Legal & Compliance, Information Security, Digital & IT, Enterprise Security, Product and Business teams, the Volvo Group Privacy Office (GPO), as well as Data Privacy Representatives (DPRs) of Volvo Group’s different Business Areas.

Your starting point will be to, together with your Legal & Compliance colleagues at VFS and in the broad cross-functional network at the Volvo Group, take responsibility in the following areas:

  • Lead and continuously improve the VFS privacy compliance framework, ensuring alignment with applicable data protection laws and regulations
  • Advise senior management and key stakeholders on privacy, data protection and regulatory developments.
  • Embed Privacy by Design principles across business initiatives, products, processes, and technology solutions.
  • Lead privacy risk assessments, DPIAs, and mitigation activities in collaboration with Legal, Risk, Information Security, and Compliance teams.
  • Oversee VFS privacy operations, including data subject rights requests, privacy incidents, data breach management, and remediation activities.
  • Maintain and improve privacy governance documentation, including Records of Processing Activities (RoPA), policies, procedures, and data mapping initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Volvo Group Privacy Office (GPO), to drive consistent and harmonized privacy practices.
  • Develop and promote privacy awareness, training, and a culture of accountability across the organization.

Qualifications likely required to be successful in this role include:
  • Bachelor's degree in law, business law, compliance, information management, information security, or a related field; legal qualification or an equivalent privacy/compliance background is preferred.
  • Typically 5-8 years of relevant experience in privacy, data protection, compliance, or a related regulatory function within a complex multinational environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading privacy governance initiatives across jurisdictions and advising senior stakeholders on regulatory compliance, governance, and risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of GDPR and other global privacy frameworks, privacy governance, data lifecycle management, information security principles, and related risk and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with the EU Data Economy Legislation as well as evolving digital regulation and the privacy implications of cloud technologies, data analytics, automation, and.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical guidance, balance regulatory risk with business needs, and support management decision-making.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across organizational levels and collaborate effectively with legal, compliance, digital, product, and information security teams.
  • Strategic, analytical, and well organized, with the ability to solve problems, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively across multinational and multicultural environments.
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Experience with privacy management platforms such as OneTrust and proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools are advantageous; relevant privacy certifications, such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT, are also an advantage.
