Job summary

Tibber is seeking a Principal Engineer to steer architecture for a high-scale, real-time distributed platform connecting millions of smart devices across Europe. You’ll own technical strategy, set standards, and collaborate with product leaders to align roadmaps with business goals while mentoring engineers and driving resilience.

You’ll bridge energy tech, IoT, and user platforms, champion reliability and secure software delivery, and influence tech decisions at executive levels.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Principal, Staff, or Chief Engineer designing and operating mission-critical distributed systems at scale.
• Deep expertise in modern cloud architectures, event-driven microservices, or high-throughput IoT infrastructures.
• Strong technical leadership and communication skills with cross-functional alignment experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and technical strategy for low-latency, highly resilient distributed systems.
• Set technical vision and best practices across domain teams to drive excellence and resilience.
• Partner with product leaders and executives to align long-term roadmaps with business goals.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and guide strategic tech-stack decisions to stay ahead of market shifts.
• Mentor senior engineers and uplift architectural craft across the company.
• Address systemic bottlenecks and ensure integration across energy trading, IoT, and user platforms.
• Champion platform reliability, security, and developer efficiency.
