Job description

Postdoc in Multidisciplinary Aircraft Design and Aerodynamic Integration

REF 2026-0438

Join us at the Division of Fluid Dynamics, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and help shape the future of Swedish aeronautical research . You will advance multidisciplinary aircraft design and aerodynamics through close collaboration with leading universities and aerospace companies.

About us

At theDepartment of Mechanical Engineering , we unite the power of technology, people, and society to drive the transition toward a sustainable future. Through research, education, and collaboration, we create solutions that connect materials to mobility, ideas to impact - shaping a resilient and sustainable world.
The Division of Fluid Dynamics conducts fundamental and applied research using computational, experimental and theoretical methods. Our research spans turbulence, multiphase flows, turbomachinery, aeroacoustics and emerging aircraft technologies, in a collaborative and international environment with strong links to industry and leading research organisations.

About the research project

The project explores future aircraft concepts for civil and defence applications, combining conceptual design, multidisciplinary optimization and high-fidelity aerodynamic analysis. Particular attention is given to unconventional configurations, challenges with integrating new fuels such as electric or hydrogen, the integration of emerging technologies at aircraft level and novel propulsion systems.

You will collaborate with leading aerospace researchers across Sweden and with industrial partners to formulate new research questions, evaluate promising concepts and publish results with both scientific relevance and practical value.

Who we are looking for

The following requirements are mandatory:

  • A doctoral degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, fluid dynamics or a closely related field.
  • A demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • A collaborative and scientifically creative mindset, with the ability to identify connections and synergies between ongoing projects and bring together complementary methods and results. In addition, the ability toinitiate joint studies that create substantially greater scientific value than the individual projects could achieve separately.
  • Initiative, intellectual curiosity and strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to work effectively across disciplines and between academic and industrial partners.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

  • Experience in developing and applying computational models and numerical methods for aerospace research.
  • Research experience in aircraft conceptual or preliminary design, multidisciplinary design optimization, computational aerodynamics, aircraft performance, propulsion-airframe integration or a closely related area.
  • Experience in teaching or supervision, together with demonstrated potential to contribute to research and education.
Contract terms

The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.

The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
