Job description

Our goal is to focus on competence, knowledge and collaboration in order to play an important, demonstrable role in social development.

Do you want to implement colaborative autonomous vehicles in real traffic? We are looking for a postdoc to work together with industry and road authoroties on this.

About us

At the department of Electrical Engineering research and education are performed in the areas of Communications, Antennas and Optical Networks, Systems and Control, Signal processing and Biomedical engineering, and Electric Power Engineering. We work with sustainable and smart solutions to societal challenges, such as energy efficiency and electrification in areas ranging from transport and production systems to communication solutions and biomedical engineering.

The Division of Automatic Control, Automation and Mechatronics conducts interdisciplinary research and education in close collaboration with industry and society. Our research combines fundamental methods with practical applications to address key societal challenges, including sustainable energy systems, battery technologies, smart automation, digitalisation, autonomous vehicles and industrial competitiveness. Through expertise in automatic control, industrial automation and mechatronics, we develop innovative solutions that contribute to safer, more efficient and sustainable technologies. Simulation, modelling and advanced control are central components of our research, which spans applications in manufacturing, transportation, energy systems and beyond.

About the research project

The research project aims at evaluating the benefits of collaborative algorithms given different percentages of cooperating autonomous vehicles in a mixed environment with human drivers concerning energy savings, traffic flow and safety. Using modelling, simulation and optimization techniques different colaborative functionality, and different traffic infrastructure will be evaluated to identify the best conditions for real traffic tests which then will be prepared together with industry.

Who we are looking for

The following requirements are mandatory:

  • A doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Engineering Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Social skills, meaning that you enjoy collaborating with others

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

  • It is highly meritorious if the doctoral degree has been obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Experience of cooperation with several partners such as companies and authoritories, especially with the vehicle industry
  • Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage
What you will do

The research project aims at evaluating the benefits of collaborative algorithms given different percentages of cooperating autonomous vehicles in a mixed environment with human drivers concerning energy savings, traffic flow and safety. Using modelling, simulation and optimization techniques different colaborative functionality, and different traffic infrastructure will be evaluated to identify the best conditions for real traffic tests which then will be prepared together with industry.

  • Using state-off the art algorithms, evaluate the impact of collaborative functionality depending on traffic situations and %- of colaborating vehicles consideringenergy savings, traffic flow and safety.
  • In colaboration with industry partners and road authorities, investigate possible places for implementing the tests in real traffic.
  • Publish your results in journals and present them at international conferences.
  • Supervise master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent.
  • Possibility to engage in teaching at undergraduate/master’s level.

The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.
