Job summary

SLU in Uppsala invites applications for a doctoral student position focusing on contaminants of emerging concern in food chains. You will develop analytical workflows for detecting known and unknown compounds in complex matrices, including sample prep, extraction and cleanup, with semi-quantitative analyses.

The project emphasizes bioaccumulation, trophic transfer, and advanced chemical screening using LC-HRMS, LC-MS, GC-MS, and other MS techniques.

Qualifications

• MSc in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, chemistry, ecotoxicology, environmental science, food science or equivalent.
• Specialisation in chemical analysis of organic contaminants and mass spectrometry experience are valuable merits.
• Experience with suspect and non-target screening workflows is highly desirable.
• Data processing skills using statistical computing, visualisation and data analysis tools (R, Python or similar) are merited.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply analytical workflows for detection and identification of known and unknown compounds in complex biological matrices.
• Perform sample preparation, extraction and clean-up; semi-quantitative analysis of detected compounds.
• Assess bioaccumulation, biomagnification and trophic transfer patterns in selected food-chain systems.
• Process large HRMS datasets and interpret chemical patterns in relation to environmental sources.
• Collaborate with national and international partners and contribute to scientific manuscript writing in English.
