Job summary

James Fisher and Sons plc is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join our onsite workshop in Vaxholm, Sweden. You will handle assembly, maintenance and testing of marine systems with a strong emphasis on quality and safety.

You will read technical drawings, diagnose issues, operate workshop equipment and support commissioning. Swedish and English communication is required, and travel to local or international sites may be needed. Competitive salary and benefits offered.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install and test mechanical subassemblies and systems, including valves, pipework, propulsion units, diving air systems, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, in line with technical specifications and project schedules.
  • Carry out installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of marine engines, waterjets, production craft systems and workshop equipment.
  • Perform composite work, laminating, painting and complete system integration on production craft and products.
  • Conduct Factory, Harbour and Sea Acceptance Testing, pre- and post-sea trial inspections, and support commissioning activities.
  • Operate workshop and lifting equipment, including forklifts, cranes, lathes, milling machines, welding equipment and surface craft, in a safe and effective manner.
  • Maintain accurate assembly documentation, product labelling and quality records, ensuring compliance with testing, certification and QA requirements.
  • Deliver high-quality assembly, installation and maintenance work while managing workload to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Ensure tools, equipment and work areas are maintained to high standards of safety, organisation and operational readiness.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, demonstrating flexibility, accountability and a proactive approach to changing priorities and new challenges.

About the Role

Mechanical Technician – Onsite, Permanent, Vaxholm, Sweden. This role requires security checks.

The Role:

An experienced and hands-on Mechanical Technician responsible for the assembly, manufacture, maintenance and testing of JFD Sweden products within a production workshop environment. The successful candidate delivers high-quality work in compliance with quality assurance standards and procedures, takes ownership of tasks from start to finish and meets demanding deadlines. A methodical approach, strong attention to detail and a proactive mindset are essential. Experience in marine systems, commercial or leisure vessels, or related industries such as subsea, aviation or automotive is advantageous but not essential.

  • Competent user of standard computer applications and systems.
  • Flexible and willing to travel to local and international sites as required.
Nice to have
  • Experience working with waterjet propulsion systems.
  • Valid forklift and crane certifications.
  • Ship\'s Officer Class VIII certification.
  • Commercial diving certification.
