Axis Communications AB in Lund is seeking a Lead Firmware Engineer to set the technical direction of the firmware team, strengthen agile practices, and advance AI integration while developing firmware for Axis thermal and explosion-protected cameras.

You will work closely with the Engineering Manager and system architect, lead through collaboration, architecture design, and cross-team coordination, with potential to grow into a system architect role.

Qualifications

• Experience as a firmware engineer.
• Solid experience in architecture design.
• Experience from technical leadership roles, with or without direct reports.
• Proficiency in Swedish and English.

Responsabilités

• Translate use cases into clear, well-structured requirements for the team.
• Drive and lead AI development in a structured, systematic way.
• Act as a technical partner and sounding board to product managers and other managers.
• Visualize and present the intended code architecture, including resource planning (CPU, memory).
• Build and maintain testing capabilities with efficient test frameworks and suites.
• Coordinate firmware work across firmware teams and plan deliveries to align with AXIS OS releases.
• Present team features to stakeholders outside the team.

As our Lead Firmware Engineer in Lund, you will help shape how our firmware team works, strengthen our agile ways of working and advance how we use AI, all while developing the firmware behind Axis thermal and explosion-protected cameras.

About The RoleWe are looking for a Lead Firmware Engineer to drive the technical direction of our firmware team, strengthen our ways of working through agile methodologies, and build close collaboration with other Axis development teams. Advancing how we work with AI is also a key part of the role. This is a technical leadership role without direct reports, where you work closely with the Engineering Manager and the team's system architect, with the ambition of growing into a system architect role. You will set direction and shape how the team works, while remaining close to the engineering itself. Your future team You will join a team of 18 firmware developers working across several product areas, including thermal cameras and explosion-protected cameras. The team develops in C in a Linux environment, and our products run embedded Linux. In this role you will, for example:

• Explore and understand use cases, and translate them into clear, well-structured requirements for the team
• Drive and lead our AI development in a structured and systematic way
• Act as a technical discussion partner and sounding board to product managers and other managers, balancing competing technical requirements
• Strengthen our design-first approach by visualizing and presenting the intended code architecture, including taking a proactive approach to system resource requirements such as processing power and memory demands
• Build and maintain testing capabilities within the team, ensuring efficient test frameworks and suites are available for continuous use
• Coordinate firmware-related work across the firmware teams in the department and with other parts of the R&D organization, and plan deliveries so they align well with AXIS OS releases
• Compile and present the features delivered by the team to stakeholders outside the team

Requirements:

• Experience as a firmware engineer
• Solid experience in architecture design
• Experience from technical leadership roles, with or without direct reports
• Professional proficiency in both Swedish and English

Bonus points for:

• Experience developing in C in a Linux environment, ideally with embedded Linux
• Familiarity with Axis products and systems
• Experience working with AI development, or with making productivity and quality improvements using agile methods and AI
• Experience facilitating agile ceremonies, such as backlog refinement, prioritization, demos and retrospectives

No travel is planned for this role, but we ask that you are open to limited traveling should the role require it.
