Job summary

Axis Communications’ Lund team seeks a Lead Firmware Engineer to set the technical direction for firmware across several product lines, including thermal and explosion-protected cameras. You’ll guide AI-focused work within an embedded Linux environment, collaborating closely with product managers and the engineering manager.

You will drive agile processes, visualize architecture, and help scale the team toward a system-architect role, while staying hands-on with engineering.

Qualifications

• Experience as a firmware engineer.
• Experience in architecture design and system-level thinking.
• Proven technical leadership experience, with or without direct reports.
• Proficiency in Swedish and English is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for the firmware team and align with product managers.
• Lead AI development efforts in a structured, systematic way.
• Collaborate with engineers across Axis and drive agile practices.
• Visualize and present the intended code architecture and resource needs.

As our Lead Firmware Engineer in Lund, you will help shape how our firmware team works, strengthen our agile ways of working and advance how we use AI, all while developing the firmware behind Axis thermal and explosion-protected cameras.About the roleWe are looking for a Lead Firmware Engineer to drive the technical direction of our firmware team, strengthen our ways of working through agile methodologies, and build close collaboration with other Axis development teams. Advancing how we work with AI is also a key part of the role.This is a technical leadership role without direct reports, where you work closely with the Engineering Manager and the team's system architect, with the ambition of growing into a system architect role. You will set direction and shape how the team works, while remaining close to the engineering itself.Your future teamYou will join a team of 18 firmware developers working across several product areas, including thermal cameras and explosion-protected cameras. The team develops in C in a Linux environment, and our products run embedded Linux.In this role you will, for example:Explore and understand use cases, and translate them into clear, well-structured requirements for the teamDrive and lead our AI development in a structured and systematic wayAct as a technical discussion partner and sounding board to product managers and other managers, balancing competing technical requirementsStrengthen our design-first approach by visualizing and presenting the intended code architecture, including taking a proactive approach to system resource requirements such as processing power and memory demandsBuild and maintain testing capabilities within the team, ensuring efficient test frameworks and suites are available for continuous useCoordinate firmware-related work across the firmware teams in the department and with other parts of the R&D organization, and plan deliveries so they align well with AXIS OS releasesCompile and present the features delivered by the team to stakeholders outside the teamWho we are looking forYou enjoy leading through collaboration and bring the team with you, getting the dialogue started and motivating and energizing those around you.
