Job summary

LKAB in Kiruna is seeking a Junior Research Engineer in ventilation to join our operations. You will work closely with operations and development to create a safe, efficient, and sustainable mining environment.

You will conduct ventilation measurements, analyse results, and contribute to ventilation modelling in Ventsim, as well as studies on airflow, heat, fire safety, and other environmental factors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mining engineering or a relevant field.
• Experience in mine ventilation, especially underground measurements.
• Good knowledge of MS Office.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
• A valid B driver's license.
• Knowledge of Swedish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ventilation measurements (airflow, pressure, temperature, humidity, contaminants) and report results.
• Perform ventilation modelling in Ventsim.
• Study airflow distribution, heat, fire safety, and other environmental factors.
• Participate in projects and contribute to continuous development of operations.

Your role

In this role, you will work both practically and analytically with mine ventilation, contributing to a safe working environment both underground and on the surface. Your work will include conducting ventilation measurements such as airflow, pressure, temperature, humidity, and contaminants, followed by analysis and reporting of results. You will also work with ventilation modelling in Ventsim and take part in studies related to airflow distribution, heat, fire safety, and other environmental factors. In addition, you will participate in projects and contribute to the continuous development and improvement of our operations.

You are a structured and analytical person with a strong commitment to health and safety. You enjoy a role where you can combine hands‑on work with analytical tasks, and you collaborate effectively with different teams and functions.

In Addition, We Expect You To Have

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mining engineering or another relevant field
• Experience in mine ventilation, particularly related to underground measurements
• Good knowledge of MS Office
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written
• A valid B driver´s license

It Is Considered a Plus If You Also Have

• Experience with data analysis tools and ventilation modelling
• Experience in working and studying in multicultural settings
• Knowledge of Swedish
