SSC - Swedish Space Corporation is seeking an IRIS² Engineering Manager to guide and manage the engineering delivery for the EU Communication Gateway project. The successful candidate will have substantial experience in multi-disciplinary engineering within complex systems, ensuring technical coherence and compliance as prime contractor.

The role emphasizes collaboration with stakeholders, technical decision-making, and maintaining an integrated engineering baseline, crucial for project success in the high-stakes environment of space technology and systems.

IRIS² Engineering Manager – EU Communication Gateway (Ground Segment)

This role is critical to ensuring that the system is technically coherent, verifiable, and ready for acceptance in a high‑complexity, multi‑partner delivery environment. In this role, you will lead the full engineering delivery for SSC’s contribution to IRIS² as prime contractor. You will act as the overall technical authority, owning the engineering baseline and ensuring the integrated system is coherent, compliant, secure, and deliverable across a multi‑disciplinary ground segment.

You operate with end‑to‑end engineering authority within programme governance, driving and owning technical decision‑making, trade‑offs, and cross‑discipline alignment across the programme. You will resolve conflicts, steer technical direction, and ensure delivery readiness at every major milestone. You will operate at programme leadership level, engaging senior stakeholders across SSC, partners, and customer organisations.

• Strong knowledge of ECSS engineering processes and lifecycle reviews


• Experience managing engineering teams across multiple disciplines and locations


• Excellent communication skills and ability to engage senior stakeholders

Additional valuable experience

• Experience with satellite communications, ground segment, or secure infrastructure


• Experience leading SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and acceptance reviews


• Knowledge of RF systems, infrastructure, software‑intensive systems, or cybersecurity


• Experience with RAMS, ILS, or operations engineering

Responsibilities

• Own and drive the engineering baseline, ensuring technical integrity, consistency, and delivery readiness


• Lead and scale the integrated engineering organisation across all relevant disciplines


• Drive and own technical governance, decision‑making, trade‑offs, and cross‑discipline alignment


• Lead verification, validation, qualification, and review readiness across the lifecycle


• Own the technical integration of subcontractor deliverables in close collaboration with the Subcontractor Manager


• Ensure compliance with ECSS, contractual requirements, and programme‑level standards


• Ensure alignment between engineering, programme schedule, cost, and subcontractor delivery
