HIL Test Engineer – Steering and Brakes

Job summary

Tata Technologies in Gothenburg, Sweden is seeking an experienced HIL Test Engineer to design, execute, and optimize tests for Steering & Brakes systems. You will coordinate with software teams, maintain test documentation, and contribute to safety-related testing per ISO 26262.

Ideal candidates have 5–7 years in automotive testing, hands-on HIL testing with DSpace/VT systems, and strong automation skills using Python and Robot Framework.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in automotive testing and validation (SWE.6, SYS.4, SYS.5).
• Hands-on experience with testing in DSpace or VT HIL systems.
• Proficient in Vector testing tools, INCA, and MDA.
• Experience with DSpace tools such as Control Desk, Automation Desk, or VT System for HIL testing.
• Automation experience using Python and Robot Frameworks.
• Skilled in test case documentation and verdict updates using System Weaver or DOORS, or Electra.
• Knowledge of ISO 26262 safety testing and documentation.
• Strong understanding of validation processes and testing equipment.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or Automotive Engineering.
• Exposure to Jenkins, Git/Gerrit, JIRA, Polarion, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform tests to ensure complete functional coverage of the Steering & Brakes system.
• Plan test strategies aligned with each software delivery cycle.
• Capture relevant logs from the HIL system and create detailed tickets.
• Coordinate with software development to communicate issues and ensure timely resolution.
• Participate in software meetings and provide feedback based on testing outcomes.
• Integrate test cases into nightly test runs with the integration team.
• Identify test areas for automation and propose automation solutions.
• Monitor and analyze test results from daily executions.
• Document test verdicts and safety-related test documentation per ISO 26262.

Area of Responsibility

Testing

• Perform various types of tests to ensure complete functional coverage of the Steering & Brakes system.
• Plan test strategies aligned with each software delivery cycle.
• In case of issues, capture relevant logs from the HIL system and create detailed issue tickets.
• Coordinate with the software development team to communicate identified issues and ensure timely resolution.
• Actively participate in software meetings and provide feedback based on testing outcomes.

Automation

• Collaborate with the integration team to integrate test cases into nightly test runs.
• Identify test areas suitable for automation and propose automation solutions.
• Monitor and analyse test results from daily executions.
• Identify test cases suitable for inclusion in CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain traceability between requirements, models, and test cases in Doors or System Weaver.
• Documentation of test verdicts from each release.
• Support to create Safety related test documentation as per ISO 26262 standard.

Knowledge / Experience

• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in automotive testing and validation (SWE.6, SYS.4, SYS.5), preferably with exposure to Steering systems.
• Hands-on experience with testing in DSpace or VT HIL systems.
• Proficient in using software tools such as Vector testing tools, INCA, and MDA.
• Experience with DSpace tools such as Control Desk, Automation Desk, or VT System for HIL testing.
• Automation experience using Python and Robot Frameworks.

• Knowledge of safety testing and documentation in accordance with ISO 26262 standards.

• Familiarity with System Weaver.
• Exposure to Jenkins, Git/Gerrit, JIRA, Polarion, or similar tools.
