Job summary

Kirby Group Engineering is offering a structured 24‑month Graduate Programme for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to develop into a future technical and project leader. You will gain hands‑on experience across prestigious projects, supported by mentoring, professional development and multidisciplinary exposure.

The role covers design, site supervision, and project support across construction sites, with mentoring and CPD activities to advance your career in the MEP sector.

Qualifications

• Level 8 Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
• Proficiency or exposure to AutoCAD, Revit or BIM tools.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Interest in the construction and MEP sector.
• Full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing and piping.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, schedules and technical specifications.
• Carry out load calculations and system sizing.
• Analyse technical information and support design improvements and value engineering.
• Support BIM and multidisciplinary design coordination.
• Attend site to monitor mechanical installations and verify compliance with design and industry standards.
• Inspect installations and assist with testing and commissioning activities.
• Support the resolution of technical issues in collaboration with subcontractors and site teams.
• Participate in site walks and produce snag lists.
• Assist with project planning, scheduling and sequencing of mechanical works.
• Track progress and identify potential risks or constraints.
• Support the preparation of project reports and documentation.
• Develop an understanding of how commissioning activities integrate with overall project programmes.
