Job summary

Advantech is seeking a Field Application Engineer to ensure the right application of our products and to support pre-sales activities. You will be the technical hub for sales colleagues and customers, providing expert guidance, demos, and collaboration across Europe.

Some travel within and beyond the Nordics is expected. You will work with a network of solution engineers, stay up-to-date on industrial computing standards, and help customers choose the best solutions while advancing Advantech's

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Automation, or a related field.
• Strong customer-centric communication and collaboration with sales and customers.
• Good teamwork and project management skills for cross-department work.
• Solid understanding of computer architecture and industrial protocols.
• Experience with Windows IoT, Linux, and RTOS environments.
• Familiarity with virtualization and edge/cloud computing (VMware/Hyper‑V/Docker/KVM).
• Knowledge of UEFI/BIOS customization and TPM security.
• Hands-on with server management tools (BMC/IPMI/Redfish) and industrial networking.
• Experience with IoT protocols (MQTT) and edge-to-cloud integration.
• Willingness to travel within and beyond the Nordics; fluent Swedish and English; Finnish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre-sales technical support and act as the go-to expert for sales and customers.
• Ensure proposed solutions are technically correct and advise on applications.
• Demonstrate products, work with demo kits for trade shows, and attend customer meetings.
• Collaborate cross-functionally on project management tasks and share best practices within Europe.
• Travel to customer sites and participate in Nordic and broader regional engagements.

The Field Application is the technical conscience of our sales force. You make sure the offered solutions are technically correct and you advise on the used applications at customers. Without you, the market will not move forward into Smart Industry!

Your responsibility

In your role as Field Application Engineer, you are there to make sure everyone sells and uses our products in the right way. You provide technical support, primarily during the pre-sales stage. acting as the go-to expert for both your sales colleagues and customers, helping them find the best possible solutions. Next to your “core-business”, you are there for all kinds of technical support. This includes working with demo kits for trade shows, attending customer meetings to introduce our products and solutions, and collaborating with colleagues on project management tasks. All this combined makes you the technical hub of the sales team. If you don’t know the solution, then who will? Luckily, you’ll be part of a network of Solution Engineers across Europe, with whom you can share experiences and collaborate to find the best solutions! This position may also involve travel within and beyond the Nordics region.

Who are you?

• Technical education (Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Automation, or a related field).
• Strong social and communication skills with a customer-centric approach.
• Good teamwork and project management skills to collaborate effectively with various departments within Advantech.
• Strong understanding of computer architecture, including CPU/GPU, memory systems, PCIe, SATA, USB, Ethernet, CAN bus, RS-232/422/485, and GPIO interfaces.
• Familiarity with industrial computing standards/protocols (e.g., Ethercat, Modbus, OPC-UA).
• Experience with Windows IoT, Linux (Ubuntu, Yocto, RedHat), and RTOS (Real-Time Operating Systems).
• Virtualization knowledge (VMware, Hyper‑V, Docker, KVM) for edge and cloud computing.
• Understanding of UEFI/BIOS customization, secure boot, and TPM (Trusted Platform Module) security.
• Hands‑on experience with server management tools like BMC, IPMI, and Redfish technologies.
• Experience with industrial networking (4G/5G, LoRa, Zigbee) and IoT protocols, like MQTT.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites, sometimes on short notice.
• Fluent in both Swedish and English. Finnish is a plus.
