Job summary

Stegra is hiring an Environmental Engineer in Boden, Sweden, to join the Sustainability & Environment team. You will report to the Head of Sustainability & Environment and help ensure environmental compliance, support sustainable operations, and drive continuous improvement toward fossil-free production.

The role requires experience in environmental management, permitting, and data analysis, with strong communication skills in Swedish and English.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Experience with environmental management, permitting, compliance, or sustainability activities in industrial operations or environmental consulting.
  • Knowledge of Swedish environmental permits and environmental legislation applicable to industrial operations.
  • Experience with environmental management systems, preferably ISO 14001.
  • Ability to analyze environmental data, assess risks, and translate regulatory requirements into practical operational solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with colleagues, contractors, consultants, and authorities.
  • Fluent in Swedish and English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permit conditions, and company standards by monitoring activities and supporting corrective actions.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring programs, reporting, and data analysis to evaluate environmental performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support environmental permitting activities by preparing documentation, coordinating studies, and collaborating with regulatory authorities and external consultants.
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments and impact evaluations to support projects, operations, and investments.
  • Develop and improve environmental management systems, procedures, and ways of working to strengthen performance across the organization.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, project teams, and contractors to integrate environmental requirements into daily work and project execution.
  • Examples include managing environmental incidents, schedules, logistics, promotion, communication and collaboration with partners.
  • Identify initiatives to reduce environmental impact and improve resource efficiency as part of Stegra’s sustainability ambitions.
