Job summary

Stegra is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our Sustainability & Environment team in Sweden. You will ensure environmental compliance, support sustainable operations, and drive continuous improvement toward fossil‑free production.

The role involves collaboration with operations, engineering, and regulators, developing EMS, and advancing environmental monitoring, EIA, and reporting to reduce impact.

Qualifications

• Experience in environmental management, permitting, and compliance.
• Ability to analyze environmental data and translate regulatory requirements into operational solutions.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and environmental reporting requirements.
• Strong communication and collaboration across teams and regulators.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permit conditions, and company standards.
• Coordinate environmental monitoring, reporting, and data analysis.
• Support permitting activities and coordinate with authorities and consultants.
• Conduct risk assessments and support project implementation.

What You’ll Do

Right now, we are looking for an Environmental Engineer to join our Sustainability & Environment team. In this role, you will report to our Head of Sustainability & Environment and sit within our Sustainability & Environment function. The team is responsible for ensuring environmental compliance, supporting sustainable operations, driving continuous improvement in environmental performance, and enabling Stegra's transition to fossil-free industrial production.

• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permit conditions, and company standards by monitoring activities and supporting corrective actions when needed.
• Coordinate environmental monitoring programs, reporting, and data analysis to evaluate environmental performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Support environmental permitting activities by preparing documentation, coordinating studies, and collaborating with regulatory authorities and external consultants.
• Conduct environmental risk assessments and impact evaluations to support projects, operational changes, and investment decisions.
• Develop and improve environmental management systems, procedures, and ways of working to strengthen environmental performance across the organization.
• Collaborate closely with operations, engineering, project teams, and contractors to integrate environmental requirements into daily work and project execution.
• Examples of responsibilities but not limited to are; manage environmental incidents, schedules, logistics, promotion, communication and collaboration with partners.
• Contribute to Stegra's sustainability ambitions by identifying initiatives that reduce environmental impact, improve resource efficiency, and support long-term environmental performance.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience working with environmental management, permitting, compliance, or sustainability-related activities, preferably within industrial operations or environmental consulting.
• Good knowledge of Swedish environmental permits, permitting processes, and environmental legislation applicable to industrial operations.
• Experience working with environmental management systems, preferably ISO 14001.
• Knowledge of environmental impact assessments (EIA), environmental monitoring programs, and environmental reporting requirements.
• Ability to analyze environmental data, assess risks, and translate regulatory requirements into practical operational solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
• Fluent in Swedish and English, both written and spoken.
