Engineering Manager / Discipline Lead Piping

If so, the position of Engineering Manager / Discipline Lead Piping could be the next step in your career.

Our department of approximately 60 employees includes piping designers, structural engineers, calculation engineers, and system administrators working on the design of various industrial and energy facilities. We are engaged throughout the entire project lifecycle—from feasibility studies, conceptual design, and detailed engineering to procurement, construction management, inspections, and final commissioning.

Our major clients operate in petrochemicals and refineries, energy production, and the pulp and paper sector. We support them with deep technical expertise, ensuring compliance with the latest industry standards. COWI’s strong reputation has led to several large, long-term project wins, primarily delivered as EPCm assignments for both national and international customers.

Lead the development of industrial engineering

As an Engineering Manager / Discipline Lead Piping, you will have overarching technical responsibility in our projects and will become part of our global expert community. You will work closely with division management, multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, and clients.

In addition to the general responsibilities of an Engineering Manager, you will bring specialized competence in piping engineering, ensuring high technical quality and coordination within your discipline.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and control the overall design and engineering work
  • Ensure schedule, budget, and quality compliance
  • Plan activities together with project managers and discipline leads
  • Provide continuous reporting to the project manager
  • Participate in internal and external project meetings
  • Lead technical forums and facilitate key technical decisions
  • Review drawings, calculations, and technical specifications
  • Participate in technical reviews and design discussions with clients
  • Contribute personally with discipline-specific tasks
  • Review and approve piping-related documentation and deliverables
Additional responsibilities as Discipline Lead Piping
  • Drive the piping discipline strategy and ensure alignment with project requirements
  • Secure integration between piping design, structural design, equipment layout, and process engineering
  • Oversee piping layout development, material selection, stress analysis, and interface management
  • Ensure adherence to relevant piping codes, standards, and best practices
  • Mentor and support piping designers and engineers within the project
  • Guarantee quality and consistency across all piping deliverables

Qualifications
  • A relevant technical degree (minimum bachelor’s) in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, or similar
  • Minimum five years of experience in industrial projects, consulting engineering, or construction
  • Proven experience in a technical coordination role
  • Demonstrated competence and hands‑on experience in piping engineering, including design, layout, and technical leadership
  • Experience as Discipline Lead Piping or similar is strongly meriting
  • Fluent in spoken and written Swedish and English
