Job summary

AstraZeneca in Gothenburg seeks a Head of Translational AI Science (CVRM) to lead a high-impact team at the intersection of biology, medicine and AI. You will advance mechanism of disease understanding and guide AI-enabled translational decision-making.

You will collaborate with senior leaders, shape data-driven strategies, and ensure scientific insights are embedded in scalable AI solutions with the AI Center of Excellence.

Qualifications

• Expertise in translational science and mechanistic thinking (MoD, MoA, MoR) within CVRM.
• Proven experience applying modern AI in biomedical or translational settings (foundation models, causal inference, multimodal learning).
• Strong quantitative background in math, statistics or computational methods.
• Ability to translate scientific questions into implementable AI approaches.
• Experience leading teams delivering AI-driven capabilities across multiple projects or portfolios.
• Track record of delivering impact within complex R&D environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small, high-impact Translational AI Science team.
• Partner with Translational Medicine leaders to align AI outputs with therapy area needs.
• Develop AI strategies combining foundation models, causal inference, and multimodal data.
• Translate scientific questions into scalable AI solutions with the AI Center of Excellence.
