Job description

The opportunity

Design at Worldline is going through an exciting transformation. We're raising the bar — fast. At the centre of that transformation is our Design System: a world-class foundation we're building with talented people who care deeply about craft, consistency, and scale. It's already creating significant impact across our product portfolio, and we're just getting started. The ambition is high, the team is strong and growing more diverse every day, and there's a real sense that we're shaking things up.

As our Design System Manager, you will own the strategy, governance, and evolution of the Worldline Design System — the shared foundation that enables our product teams to deliver consistent, high-quality experiences at scale. Coming from a design background, you understand the craft and the "why" behind every component; with a strong affinity for frontend development, you can bridge the gap between design decisions and technical implementation. Your mission is to make the Design System a product in its own right — one that serves designers and developers alike, accelerates delivery, and raises the quality bar across our entire product portfolio. You will lead cross-functional collaboration, align stakeholders, and build the processes that keep the system healthy and evolving.

This role is based in Stockholm, Sweden.

Day-to-day responsibilities
  • Own the vision, roadmap, and governance of the Worldline Design System, treating it as a product with clear goals, priorities, and success metrics.
  • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of design system components — from identifying needs and defining patterns, through design and documentation, to handoff and adoption tracking.
  • Bridge the gap between design and frontend engineering, ensuring components are both designerly and technically sound — working closely with developers who implement the system in code.
  • Establish and maintain contribution guidelines, quality standards, and governance processes so the system scales sustainably.
  • Collaborate closely with product designers across teams to understand their needs, gather feedback, and ensure the system evolves to support real product challenges.
  • Champion design tokens, accessibility standards, and responsive patterns to ensure consistency across platforms and products.
  • Nurture adoption of the Design System across product teams, providing training, documentation, and hands‑on support to designers and developers.
  • Stay ahead of design system trends, tooling innovations, and frontend technologies to continuously improve how we build and maintain our system.
  • Actively explore opportunities for our business and the field of design systems with generative and Agentic AI — from automated documentation to intelligent component suggestions.
  • Advocate for the Design System as a strategic asset within the organisation, communicating its value to senior stakeholders and product leadership.
  • Become a key member of the Worldline Design team, shaping our design infrastructure and contributing to our culture of consistency, craft, and mutual support.
Who are we looking for
  • 5+ years of experience in product design or design systems, with at least 2 years of hands‑on experience building, maintaining, or managing a design system.
  • A design background with a strong understanding of UI design principles, component architecture, design patterns, and visual consistency.
  • Frontend affinity — you may not write production code daily, but you understand HTML/CSS, component frameworks (e.g., React), design tokens, and how design translates to implementation. Hands‑on frontend experience is a strong plus.
  • Proven experience managing a design system as a product — including roadmapping, prioritisation, stakeholder management, and adoption measurement.
  • Expert‑level Figma skills, including component architecture, variants, variables, auto‑layout, and library management.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and how they apply to design system components.
  • Experience creating and maintaining design system documentation that serves both designers and developers.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders — from designers and developers to product managers and leadership.
  • A collaborative and service‑oriented mindset — you see the design system as an enabler for others and find satisfaction in making your colleagues more effective.
  • A systems‑thinking mindset with a keen eye for detail and a passion for order, scalability, and maintainability.
  • An optimistic, warm personality — you bring positive energy to your collaborations, value diverse perspectives, and believe great systems are built by great teams supporting each other.
  • Industry experience in payments or B2B SaaS is a nice‑to‑have — what matters most is your design system expertise and design craft. Domain knowledge you'll learn on the job.
  • You have an online portfolio or case study showcasing your design system work, which you can share upon application.
  • You are available to work full time.

On top of that, you will also:

  • Work with inspiring colleagues in a supportive, inclusive environment and be empowered to learn, grow and accelerate your career.
  • Health contribution
  • Health check – Every 2:nd year
  • Private Health Care Insurance (EuroAccident)
  • Parental pay and 12 months pension during parental leave
  • Opportunity to hybrid working according to company standard
  • Benefit portal with many great offers, plus more.
