Job description

Date Center Technician, Data Center Operations

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Build relationships with internal teams and customers and innovate effective solutions to meet issues & problems as they arise.
  • Conduct site assessments at various facilities to proactively prepare for the onsite installation of AWS equipment.
  • Install, expand, or provision AWS infrastructure at third‑party premises, data centers, and non‑traditional environments.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, network installations & configurations, perform network testing, break/fix, rack installations, and/or decommissioning, and solve complex problems.
  • Proactively identify and implement strategies that prevent support issues and enhance the customer experience.
  • Process and track purchase orders for data center hardware components.
    • Monitor spare parts inventory levels and initiate replenishment orders.
    • Maintain accurate records in internal ordering databases.
    • Execute asset transfers across global locations.
    • Track order approvals and provide timely updates to stakeholders.
    • Identify and report shipment issues, including delays, cancellations, and expedited requests.
    • Manage shipment label distribution for new equipment and returns.
    • Coordinate with global teams to ensure timely delivery and resolution of issues.
  • Conduct day‑to‑day business, both internally and with external customers.
  • Required travel up to 25% on average to install, service, and retrieve AWS equipment.
  • Physical ability to push and/or pull heavy objects into position (regularly lift up to 18kg and participate in team lifts of 30kg).
  • May lead or participate in efforts to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and tools that improve operational efficiencies.
  • May lead larger projects requiring cross‑functional alignment and support, including large data‑center installations and global business initiatives.
  • May be required to work at height to maintain AWS infrastructure equipment while adhering to AWS health & safety guidelines.
  • Most of all, you will have a passion for technology along with a desire to be the best at your job every day!
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of data center engineering or operations experience.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of hardware, networking, security, databases (relational or NoSQL), and operating systems (Unix, Linux, and/or Windows).
  • 2+ years of leading large complex programs experience.
  • A valid (EU) driving license is required as data centers may not have public transportation available nearby.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or 4+ years of relevant technical position experience.
  • Experience working in a customer‑facing environment.
  • CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Cisco/CCNA, Linux (Redhat), hardware installation, AWS, or other industry‑relevant certifications.
  • Knowledge of power, cooling, cabling, networking hardware, inventory management, and automation.
  • Proficiency in network operating systems (Cisco IOS, NX‑OS, Junos).
