Job summary

Empathy Talent is seeking a software engineer to own services from design through production in Malmö, Sweden. You will work on large-scale, customer-facing web services with a focus on authentication, availability, and performance under real load.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of production experience, deep Java knowledge, and strong CI/CD and debugging skills, with the ability to communicate complex decisions clearly in English.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production experience at scale.
• Deep Java including memory model, GC, and concurrent programming.
• You've debugged production issues under real load and concurrency.
• You read the source of your dependencies when the docs run out.
• Proven experience building and scaling customer-facing web services: authentication, authorization, availability, reliability, and performance.
• You reason about distributed systems—consistency, partitioning, and failure modes.
• Strong knowledge of data storage and caching technologies like Cassandra, Redis, and memcached or similar.
• Experience writing REST based services using Netty or similar frameworks.
• Knowledge and experience with CI/CD tooling and full automation testing.
• Strong communication, written and verbal ability to explain technical decisions.
