Backend Engineer - Digital Enterprise (HR & Finance)
At Stegra, we are building a next-generation steel plant – and digital capabilities are a core part of how we operate, optimize, and scale our operations.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain backend services that enable reliable HR and Finance operations.
- Design APIs and integrations that enable reliable and scalable communication between systems.
- Work with synchronous and asynchronous patterns, including event‑driven approaches where relevant.
- Contribute to how services are structured, interact, and evolve over time.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance stakeholders to understand needs and turn them into working solutions.
- Break down problems into clear technical components and development tasks.
- Ensure that security, data protection, and access control are embedded in the solutions we build.
How we work
- Modular, microservice‑based architecture.
- Combination of well‑designed APIs and event‑driven integrations.
- Integration treated as a core capability.
- Systems designed to evolve and be replaceable over time.
- Iterative development – delivering early and improving continuously.
We make use of modern tools, including AI‑assisted development, while placing strong emphasis on understanding problems, making sound technical decisions, and building solutions that work in practice.
What you'll bring
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- A few years of experience in backend development.
- Experience working with APIs and/or microservice‑based systems.
- Interest in how systems are designed and how components interact over time.
- Familiarity with asynchronous patterns (events, messaging, queues).
- Ability to break down complex problems into structured technical solutions.
- Comfortable working directly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Interest in understanding business processes and how digital solutions support them.
Meriting
- Experience with Kotlin / Spring or similar.
- Experience with cloud, DevOps practices, or CI/CD.
- Experience working with testing, monitoring, or production systems.
How you will grow
While your core work will be backend, you will have the opportunity to understand and contribute across the full stack – from data to frontend – and to take increasing responsibility for how services are designed, interact, and evolve over time, supported by experienced colleagues in each area.
