The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. Approximately 58 000 students and 6 800 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. The Department of Sociology and Work Science has about 110 employees and conducts extensive research and education in close collaboration with society. The department hosts internationally recognised research in areas such as social inequalities, work, organisations, and welfare.
The Department is seeking one to two associate researchers to work on EU Horizon funded projects REFLECT and VISTA, with a focus on gender, intersectionality, and quantitative methods. REFLECT and VISTA project pages: REFLECT (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101290292); VISTA (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101286827).
The successful candidate(s) will contribute to two EU Horizon funded research projects led by Sofia Strid and Anne Laure Humbert. The REFLECT project examines intersectional gender inequalities among researchers in Europe, and the VISTA project focuses on gender-based violence in organised sport in Europe. The successful candidates are expected to contribute to one or both projects as per operational requirements.
These mixed methods projects address societal challenges related to gender, intersectionality, and inequalities through advanced quantitative methods (including cross-national survey research), qualitative research (including narrative interviews, focus groups and photovoice), and co-creation methods. They involve collaboration with international partners and aim to generate knowledge relevant to science, policy, and practice.
The associate researchers will work within the above projects, predominantly in their quantitative work packages. Duties include contributing to the design and analysis of cross-national surveys, leading the operational implementation of these surveys by actively managing fieldwork, and the management and analysis of quantitative data.
The successful candidate(s) are expected to collaborate closely with senior researchers and international partners, contribute to joint publications, and take initiative in leading academic outputs within the project framework. The role may also involve contributing to mixed methods research, including the integration and analysis of qualitative data, in collaboration with other team members.
Selection will be based on an overall assessment of scientific competence, methodological skills, experience, and personal suitability in relation to the duties of the position.
For this position the applicant must hold or be close to completing a doctoral degree in social statistics, sociology, or a related discipline, with a strong quantitative component.
Professional qualities are an important part of the assessment. The position requires the ability to collaborate effectively with senior scholars and international research teams, as well as the capacity to work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks in a structured and reliable manner. Strong communication skills are essential. The applicant must have excellent command of English (equivalent to CEFR C2), both written and spoken. Knowledge of Swedish is desirable.
The position is a fixed-term appointment for 12 months, full-time (100%), placed at the Department of Sociology and Work Science. The work will mainly be carried out in Sweden.
The selection process may include interviews, presentations, and reference checks.
