Job summary

Wood is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to support mining projects in Saudi Arabia. The role involves leading pre-construction, earthworks, and infrastructure for a new gold mine and processing facility at a remote site.

You will oversee foundations, structural steel, and concrete, ensure HSE compliance, coordinate utilities, and review drawings and RFIs with the home office design team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Mandatory registration with the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE).
• 15+ years in heavy industrial construction, infrastructure, or mining projects.
• Familiarity with the Saudi Building Code (SBC) and local environmental laws.
• Deep knowledge of earthwork, geotechnical, structural steel, structural concrete, and hot-weather concreting.

Responsibilities

• Lead pre-construction site assessments, surveys, and site mobilization.
• Manage massive earthworks, bulk excavations, and grading operations.
• Verify ground stabilization and soil compaction as applicable.
• Oversee foundation pouring and curing for mining infrastructure.
• Supervise structural steel and reinforced concrete installation; issue non-conformance reports.
• Direct waterproofing, insulation, and asset protection systems against harsh climates.
• Design and deploy stormwater drainage networks and flood mitigation systems (designed by home office; field tasks may include limited design modifications).
• Coordinate utility trenching, pipelines, and containment pond construction.
• Provide real-time field engineering support and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
• Enforce HSE protocols with local regulatory bodies.
• Review drawings and 3D models to resolve clashes and respond to RFIs.

Job Description

Wood is currently seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to support our projects business. The role involves contributing to the development of a new gold mine and processing facility at a remote site in Saudi Arabia.

Responsibilities

Pre-Construction & Earthworks

• Leadpre-construction site assessments, surveys, and site mobilization.
• Managemassive earthworks, bulk excavations, and grading operations.
• Verifyground stabilization, soil compaction and improvement if applicable.
• Overseefoundation pouring and curing for mining infrastructure.
• Supervisestructural steel and reinforced concrete installation for processing plants. Ensure that Contractor is following the project specifications and engineering design. Issue non-conformance reports for unacceptable construction incidents.
• Directwaterproofing, thermal insulation, and asset protection systems against harsh climates.

Infrastructure & Drainage

• Designdeploy comprehensive stormwater drainage networks and flood mitigation systems. The design should be all completed by the home office prior to construction. The field engineer may be involved in limited design tasks which are mainly a modification to the original design. Please rephrase this requirement.
• Managecivil finishing works including heavy-haul mining roads and access pavements.
• Coordinateutility trenching, pipelines, and containment pond construction.

Field Support & Safety

• Providereal-time field engineering support and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
• Enforcestrict Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols alongside local regulatory bodies.
• Reviewengineering drawings and 3D model to resolve onsite design clashes and respond totechnical queries (RFIs).

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Registration: Mandatory registration with the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE).
• Experience: 15+ years in heavy industrial construction, infrastructure, or mining projects.
• Regulations: Familiarity with the Saudi Building Code (SBC)and local environmental laws.
• Skills: Deep knowledge of earthwork, geotechnical, structural steel,structural concrete, and hot-weather concreting practices.
