AtkinsRéalis Group seeks an experienced Steel Welding Inspector – Bridges to oversee welding and fabrication quality on major bridge projects. You will inspect girders, diaphragms, and connections; verify materials and welding procedures; and witness NDT as required.

The role requires a Diploma or Bachelor's in a related field, 10+ years in steel fabrication and welding inspection, and certified welding inspection credentials. Strong QA/QC coordination and reporting skills are essential.

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/structural engineering or welding discipline.
• Significant experience in steel fabrication, welding inspection, and QA/QC for bridges/infrastructure.
• Certified welding inspection credentials and NDT knowledge are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect structural steel fabrication and welding for bridges and infrastructure.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications for compliance.
• Verify materials against drawings, certificates, and project specs.
• Conduct pre-, in-process, and post-welding inspections and witness NDT as applicable.
• Coordinate NCRs, non-conformance closures, and corrective actions.
• Monitor storage, handling, and traceability of welding consumables and materials.

### **Job Description**## OverviewAtkinsrealis seeking an experienced Steel Welding Inspector – Bridges to oversee and ensure the quality of structural steel fabrication, welding, erection, and associated inspection activities for major bridge and infrastructure projects.## Your role* Perform inspection and surveillance of structural steel fabrication and welding activities for bridges and associated infrastructure.* Inspect welded components including steel girders, box girders, plate girders, cross girders, diaphragms, stiffeners, connections, and other structural steel elements.* Verify materials against approved drawings, specifications, material certificates, and project requirements.* Review and verify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualification records.* Ensure welding activities are performed by appropriately qualified and approved welders.* Conduct pre-welding, in-process, and post-welding inspections.* Verify joint preparation, fit-up, alignment, root gaps, bevel angles, welding consumables, preheating, interpass temperatures, and welding sequences.* Carry out detailed visual inspection of completed welds and identify defects or workmanship deficiencies.* Coordinate and witness Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities such as UT, MT, PT, and RT, as applicable.* Review NDT reports and ensure identified defects are properly repaired, re-inspected, and closed.* Monitor welding consumable storage, handling, drying, and issuance in accordance with approved procedures.* Inspect structural steel fabrication dimensions and tolerances against approved shop drawings and project specifications.* Monitor site erection and field welding of bridge steel structures.* Ensure proper weld identification and traceability throughout fabrication and installation.* Review inspection reports, material certificates, welding records, NDT reports, repair records, and quality dossiers.* Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where workmanship or materials do not comply with project requirements.* Monitor corrective and preventive actions and ensure timely closure of quality observations and NCRs.* Coordinate with contractors, fabrication yards, QA/QC teams, consultants, designers, and project management teams.* Participate in inspections, hold-point/witness-point activities, quality meetings, and technical discussions.* Ensure all works comply with approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, drawings, specifications, and applicable welding codes.* Support final inspection, punch-list clearance, documentation, and handover of completed bridge steelwork.## About you* Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.* Minimum 10 years of overall experience in steel fabrication, welding inspection, and quality control.* Significant experience specifically involving bridges, highways, structural steel, or major transportation infrastructure projects.* Strong experience with fabrication and erection of steel bridge structures and welded structural components.* Recognized welding inspection certification such as CSWIP 3.1/3.2, AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or equivalent is highly preferred.* NDT certification/knowledge in UT, MT, PT and RT is advantageous.* Strong understanding of welding processes such as SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and SAW.* Good knowledge of applicable structural steel and welding requirements, including AWS, ASTM, ASME, ISO, EN, AASHTO, and relevant project specifications, as applicable.* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, shop drawings, welding symbols, WPS/PQR documentation, material certificates, and NDT reports.* Strong understanding of welding defects, acceptance criteria, dimensional tolerances, repair procedures, and quality control requirements.* Previous experience working in steel fabrication yards and bridge construction sites is highly desirable.* Strong communication, reporting, documentation, and coordination skills.* Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering, construction, contractor, and QA/QC teams.## Rewards & benefitsExplore the rewards and benefits that help you thrive – at every stage of your life and your career.This includes:* Tax-free salary.* Life insurance coverage.* Medical insurance.* Annual leave balance.* Company gratuity scheme.* Discretionary bonus program.* Annual flight contribution.* Transportation & housing allowances.* Employee Wellbeing Program: 24/7 access to specialists in finance, legal matters, familycare, personal health, fitness, and nutrition.
