Job summary

NOMAC is seeking a Shift Charge Engineer to oversee operational activities during the shift at Al Madinnah Al Manwarah, Sidra. You will monitor plant performance, provide technical support, and ensure safety, efficiency and achievement of shift production targets.

Reporting to the Operation Manager, you will lead a team, coordinate with maintenance, QA and planning, review SOPs, manage SAP processes, and respond to disturbances to maintain reliable plant operations in a demanding desalination

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 8 years’ experience in water desalination and power plants with 2 years supervisory.
• Knowledge of plant equipment; SAP working knowledge preferred.
• IMS system awareness and project management experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitor plant performance and provide operations engineering support during the shift.
• Oversee day-to-day shift activities and ensure safe, efficient execution.
• Review work instructions, SOPs, processes; recommend improvements to Operations Manager.
• Coordinate with departments to ensure timely execution of plant operations.
• Manage emergencies during the shift per the company plan and maintain safety.

Position Title: Shift Charge Engineer

Job Purpose

To oversee and manage the operational activities during the shift, monitor operational performance and provide technical support to ensure efficiency, productivity and safety of NOMAC’s plant, whilst achieving the shift production targets.

Key Accountabilities

Description

People Management

• Supervise the activities and work of the team members during the shift to ensure that targets and objectives are achieved and the business plan is delivered in line with the required policies, processes, procedures and systems.

Operations Management

• Monitor plant performance and provide operations engineering support dealing with all process / operational related matters and activities during the shift to ensure optimal plant operations in a timely manner.
• Oversee the day-to-day activities of shift staff and manage all plant operating activities ensuring they are executed in a safe and efficient manner so that the operational area meets required targets.
• Review all current work instructions, SOPs, processes and procedures and recommend necessary changes to the Operations Manager, ensuring process efficiency and optimization of resources.
• Monitor operational performance and make quick decisions to correct abnormalities or disturbances, taking corrective actions during a state of emergency.
• Coordinate with all other departments for activities that are related to plant operations during the shift and ensure their timely execution as per the plan.

Maintenance Support

• Collaborate with Maintenance team during the shift and ensure that any minor / major activities like commissioning and start-up activities are completed in a safe manner, as per the established plan.
• Ensure strict adherence to all relevant HSSE and permit to work system, instructions and controls and procedures are complied with so that the safety of employees and environmental compliance can be guaranteed.

Relationship Management

• Develop and maintain effective business relationships with all relevant internal departments and external contractors while promptly attending to all critical technical issues in-order to ensure the services required by the organization are delivered in the most effective manner.
• Represent the plant in all technical meetings to handle any escalated technical matters, to ensure timely resolution of issues.

SAP Administration

• Administer SAP processes within the operations section and ensure adherence to SAP guidelines in all related aspects of annual and monthly planning, scheduling, data management such as breakdowns review, corrective maintenance notification, creating work orders and planning in order to ensure data/system integrity in line with NOMAC’s defined standards.
• Ensure all system documents are up to date in order to comply with NOMAC’s quality standards.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment

• Monitor the adherence to all relevant health, safety, security and environmental procedures, instructions and controls so that the safety of employees and environmental compliance can be guaranteed.
• Ensure that all accidents, incidents or near misses occurring during the shift are properly reported as per established procedures.
• Manage an emergency during the shift as per the company emergency response plan until relieved by a higher authority, in order to ensure minimum impact of the hazard.

Policies, Processes, Systems & Procedures

• Adhere to all relevant organizational and departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out to the required standard and in a consistent manner.

Continuous Improvement

• Contributes to the identification and implementation of change initiatives, programs and projects in line with the organization’s standards.

Related Assignments

• Perform any other duties which the line manager may require to be carried out.

Communication & Working Relationships

• Needs to work closely with Operation Manager, Shift Supervisors, CCR Operators/ Engineers, Chief/shift Chemist, Planning Engineer, Maintenance Team, HSE Engineer, Purchaser, Storekeeper etc.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• A bachelor’s degree holder in Engineering.

Minimum Experience

• 8 years’ experience in water desalination and power generation plants with 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
