Job summary

SLB seeks an experienced Senior Well Engineer to review and approve well proposals and programs, oversee execution, and ensure technical integrity on drilling projects in Saudi Arabia.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with clients and service providers, and manage costs against AFEs while upholding HSE standards and company procedures. Leadership and continual improvement are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in drilling/well engineering operations
  • Strong knowledge of well design, drilling operations, and well control
  • Valid Well Control certification (IWCF/IADC – Supervisor level)
  • Experience in cost control, AFE management, and performance monitoring
  • Proven leadership and mentoring experience
  • Strong understanding of HSE standards, risk management, and compliance
  • Ability to manage projects, analyze performance, and drive continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve well proposals, Basis of Design, and well programs
  • Oversee execution of well operations and ensure technical integrity
  • Review and approve operational procedures (e.g., casing, cementing)
  • Supervise and mentor junior well engineers on the project
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and service companies
  • Support selection and evaluation of equipment and service providers
  • Monitor and control costs against AFE and ensure compliance with HSE standards and company procedures
  • Participate in risk management, HARC, and incident investigations; lead performance reviews to improve drilling efficiency (ft/day, NPT)
  • Monitor daily operations (time/depth, cost, performance trends)
  • Approve well control briefings and Management of Change (MOC); drive continuous improvement and resolve recurring operational issues
  • Plan and forecast medium- and long-term operational requirements
  • Verify invoices and support project management activities
