Overview

The opportunity We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior SAS and Cyber Security Commissioning Engineer to lead the successful commissioning of Substation Automation Systems (SAS) with an emphasis on integrated cyber security measures. This role involves ensuring the robust and secure operation of critical infrastructure projects.

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Lead and execute the commissioning activities for Substation Automation Systems (SAS), including protective relays, RTUs, SCADA systems, and communication networks, ensuring adherence to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Develop, review, and implement comprehensive cyber security commissioning plans for SAS, incorporating secure configurations, network segmentation, access controls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for SAS and cyber security components, identifying and resolving any discrepancies or vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct thorough testing of cyber security controls, including vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and incident response drills, to validate the integrity and resilience of operational technology (OT) environments.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineers, project managers, and clients to understand system requirements, provide technical expertise, and ensure seamless integration of SAS and cyber security solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues related to SAS hardware, software, and cyber security configurations, providing timely and effective resolutions.
  • Develop and deliver training to clients and internal teams on SAS operation, maintenance, and cyber security best practices.
  • Prepare detailed commissioning reports, as-built documentation, and cyber security compliance reports.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry standards, technologies, and threats in substation automation and cyber security, recommending continuous improvements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on SAS and cyber security commissioning methodologies.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in commissioning Substation Automation Systems (SAS) and/or industrial control systems.
  • Demonstrable expertise in cyber security principles and practices specifically applied to Operational Technology (OT) environments, including IEC 62443 standards.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with various protective relays (e.g., Siemens, GE, ABB), RTUs, SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., IEC 61850, Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3).
  • Proven experience in configuring and commissioning network devices (firewalls, switches, routers) and security tools (SIEM, IDS/IPS) within critical infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of cyber security frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001) and their application in OT/ICS environments.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as GICSP, CISSP, CEH, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in interpreting electrical schematics, network diagrams, and control logic.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to travel frequently to project sites, sometimes for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English.
