Job summary

The ideal candidate should have a technical diploma and at least 6 years of experience in a shipyard environment, alongside certifications in painting operations. The candidate will handle not only painting tasks but also adhere to strict timelines and quality standards.

  • Good communication skills in Arabic and English.

Job description
JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

This job is mainly to perform outdoor touch-up painting with rollers and brushes after surface preparation at P.E and Dock stage of newly build ships. This job also includes masking to avoid contaminations and associated cleaning work. Blasting and painting experience is required. The candidate must work closely together with the production manager, engineers, and foreman to ensure that all assigned projects are executed safely, on time, and within budget in accordance with the contract and International Maritime Industries Management System (IMIMS). The candidate must be able to collaborate with other departments and communicate results and concerns to the production management team. The candidate must be ready to work under pressure and drive a team to completion against aggressive timelines and work scopes and willing to be trained to handle other tasks than blasting as the need arise.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  1. Ensure proper use of rollers and brushes to apply various kinds of paints on the surface.
  2. Ensure proper control of paint agitator.
  3. Perform touch-up painting according to the project specifications/codes and following the drawings.
  4. Perform associated masking, cleaning work and disposal of waste paint and paint can.
  5. Ensure all assigned works are executed safely on time.
  6. Ensure that all technical drawings and documentation, such as painting specification, ITP and painting drawing is followed.
  7. When engaging in any activity, ensure that you have a valid work permit (confined space).
  8. Attend safety and daily toolbox meetings and under the risk involved with the job.
  9. Monitor materials usage to ensure possible shortages are identified and addressed at the earliest possible opportunity
  10. Ability to perform pre-painting preparations and examine finished work and ensure they meet standards for excellence.
  11. Inspect the equipment and tools they use while performing their job and maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
  12. Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Security (HSES) responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education Technical Diploma or equivalent qualification (blasting and painting apprentice)

Professional Qualifications (Certifications & Accreditations)

Preferred certified painting operator by NACE/SSPC/FROSIO or any other organizations.

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
  • Understanding of surface preparation and painting processes, paint marking.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety hazard, use of protection equipment, coating materials, mixing, and thinning of coatings, coating pot-life, surface requirements.
  • Inspecting paint material, equipment, and tools.
  • Familiar with engineering drawings and terminology.
  • Experience in using electrical or manual tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage/motivate a team
  • Good oral communication skills in English.
EXPERIENCE

At least 6 to 11 years’ experience in the Shipyard.

  • Good Communication Skills (oral and written) in the English Language.
