Job description

Responsibilities
  • Provides the full range of ophthalmological care to all Saudi Aramco employees and their eligible dependents.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of integrated preventative‑curative medical care programs.
  • Responsible for evaluating, diagnosing and treating medical and surgical eye conditions.
  • Orders general and specific tests to diagnose and manage eye conditions.
  • Performs non‑invasive and invasive procedures.
  • Conducts elective and emergency surgeries within the scope of an ophthalmologist and sub‑specialist.
  • Performs YAG and Argon laser applications.
  • Reports to and receives administrative guidance from the physician manager of the Ophthalmology Services Unit.
  • Has daily contacts with patients, families, physicians, specialists, nurses, allied health staff and clinical administrators.
  • Performs complete eye examinations, assessments, and implements appropriate treatment plans.
  • Discusses findings, treatment plans, expected results and possible complications with patients and their families.
  • Follows patients through their illness at appropriately spaced intervals.
  • Completes patient and other medical records promptly and accurately, indicating diagnosis, treatment and actions.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of patient medical records.
  • Takes on‑call coverage of emergency and urgent cases during day and night as per the on‑call schedule.
  • Performs special procedures on an out‑patient basis.
  • Is qualified in the application of YAG and Argon laser therapy.
  • Consults with other physicians and specialists when necessary.
  • Refers patients to appropriate physicians as required.
  • Participates in group conferences to provide specialist input on complex medical cases.
Qualifications
Education
  • Graduation from an approved medical school.
  • Board certification by the American Board, the Canadian Royal College of Physicians, or equivalent.
  • One year of internship in a recognized training program.
  • Two years of fellowship training with ophthalmology board certification from a recognized training program (SCFHS & JHAH HR).
Experience
  • Three years of practice in ophthalmology after board certification, with proof of expertise.
  • Must hold a valid license to practice medicine.
  • Available certifications and other requirements as applicable.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to adjust to group practice in a medical environment.
